Hello,

Trying out the KoBo tools before deploying them in the field. Here comes my first problem.... On the KoBoForm Designer, I signed up to create a log in user name and password to be able to save my forms to the browser. It worked that first time. However, impossible to log back in later. It seems I have to create a new log in everytime I open KoBoForm (v 1.0.26). Has anyone experienced this problem? I save my form to file without any problem.

Many thanks

Cecilia

Cecilia,
Were you able to find your log in after Patrick's advice? As he said, the log in is local, so it is specific to your browser and your computer. This is so that you can use the application offline as well as online. Let us know how you made out.

Hello Neil,

On my home computer, which is a MAC, it works fine. But on my work computer (a PC), using firefox, online and/or offline, that login function does not want to work! It hasn’t stopped me from going ahead but it’s strange?

Loading and saving from file takes a bit of time (up to 30 seconds before the window pops up). Can I do anything to change that?

To be continued!

Cecilia

So, yeah, changing computers means that your forms don't go with you. You can't log in on another computer, it won't know your ID or store your forms. You can export your forms as an XML file from one computer, and load them on a different computer, using the Main Menu, Open from File, or Load from Text function.

What kind of hardware are you using (phone or tablet, Android version)? You are free to send your XML form so I can see how long it takes to load.

Hello,

On my PC, on firefox browser, it doesn’t keep my log in and password. If I just logout, I can log in again with the same username. However, if I close the browser and open it again on the same computer, it does not remember my login. Shouldn’t it? Oh and it never gives me the options to keep me logged in or remember my password.

New problem this morning, I can’t load from file. It gets stuck on this screen. I tried on two different computers using different XLM forms saved on their main drives (I attached it here)

My feeling is that this is a computer problem as both are ACF computers.

Cecilia,
You may see that i sent out an advisory about Firefox, can you give this a spin in Chrome and see if you are having the same problem? See my other email thismorning for details on how to move your forms from Firefox to Chrome.

Hi Cecilia,
I'm not sure about your login issues - it sounds like some sort of browser security setting that erases everything you do right away:)

As for loading from file, I ran into the same issue and the workaround is to 'Load from text'. Neil thought the issue was caused by some sort of Java plug-in issue...Anyways, open your .xml in a text editor (or Notepad ++) and copy and paste into the window that opens in KoBoForm. I hope that works!
Take care,
j

Thank you Jitka, tried that and it works (load from text) for now!

Using Chrome, I had no issue just now:) not with log in and nor with saving and/or loading from file! Loading is still quite slow. Will keep on trying

Neil, where is this advisory and message about transfering forms from Firefox to Chrome? I dont have important forms to transfer anyhow... are we to stop using firefox then?

thanks

Cecilia,
I sent this out to the list yesterday, appended here to clarify about Firefox and Java.

Greetings KoBoNauts,

Just a friendly advisory for users of KoBoForm. Usually, we recommend that users work in the Firefox browser when using KoBoForm, offline or online. However, recent updates to Firefox have caused a known issue with Java. This won't stop you from using KoBoForm in Firefox, but it will prevent you from saving your form to your local file syste, and it will prevent you from uploading and existing XML form into KoBoForm for editing.

There are two ways around this, One is to simply switch to the Chrome browser. Chrome does not have the same Java incompatibility issue, and this solution works just fine. You should be able to save and upload files as well as all the normal KoBoForm functions. There was a time when we steered KoBoForm users away from using Chrome, but some back-end upgrades to KoBoForm have made those warnings moot, and we now recommend Chrome as the best browser to work in.

Alternatively, if you are very attached to Firefox, you can get around the normal method of Saving forms to local XML file and uploading XML files into KoBoForm, by using the LOAD FROM TEXT and VIEW FORM TEXT functions from the Main Menu.

Load from Text: This will open a window that lets you paste in a the XML from a local form you have opened in a text editor. Just copy, paste, and open.

View Form Text: This function will allow you to copy the XML from the KoBoForm that you are currently working on. Copy and Paste into a text editor to save it to your local system. If you want to move forms you have saved in Firefox to Chrome, open the form using LOAD FROM BROWSER, then select VIEW FORM TEXT to see the XML.  Copy and Paste into a text editor to save it to your local system, then you can open the form in your Chrome browser using KoBoForm's OPEN FROM FILE function.

It's all in the Main Menu, so I hope this workaround isn't too much trouble for anyone. I am sure that Firefox will eventually sort out its issues with Java, and we will go back to using both browsers interchangeably. Keep in mind that Forms are stored in the browser using HTML5 local storage, so if you change browsers or computers, your data does not come with you. Sorry for the inconvenience to those who have to manually move their stored forms from Firefox to Chrome.
