Dear all,
I am new to KoboToolbox but I could learn easily the things with tutorials and other supports forum's articles. However, having an option to make the question relevant in excel sheet survey part of file, the display of other(Specify) field never happens in the same page. For example,
which language you speak?
option 1: Hindi
option 2: Nepali
option 3: others(specify)
For, option 3 I can create text type question to enable when option 3 is selected and it works fine in web form and single paged(without grouping) in app.
Therefore, did koboToolbox.org solved the issue and if not solved why so? Just want to know the reason why we can't have multple page for such question?

Thank you

Hi,
This works in the Android Collect app as well. But you can't put the 'Other' question on the same page as the question it depends on. See also here: http://support.kobotoolbox.org/customer/portal/articles/1761555

Best,
Tino

Hi Dawa, using the android app, you cannot display on a same page questions that include relevance statement for questions on the same page.  So you have two options: (1) Display the "other" specify on the same page as the language question, but remove the relevance statement: It will always show regardless of whether other is selected or not, or (2) separate in multiple pages and keep the relevance statement.

Option (1) is fine with trained and experienced interviewers, option (2) reduces the risk of error.

Good luck!

Dear Pvinck,

option 1 of your answer.

I appreciate your idea but removing relevant statement would remove the condition to skip to others field when other option is being selected in pre question.
So, should we train enumerators not to go to others field if others option is not being selected in pre question.

option 2:
it works fine though.

Thank you.

Hello,

With my understanding of kobo, It doesn't support that kind of question type.
Only Google forms does that.
Thanks.

Hi Dawa,
A colleague of mine used to use the following workaround:
Show both on the same page in the same group and add a required syntax saying: "${MainQuestion}='OTHER'" and a constraint saying the same thing, to force the user to fill the if other please specify" if "Other" was ticked on the main question.
Not a great fan personally, I've always preferred showing the "If other please specify" on the next page to not confuse the user but I can understand somebody prefering this technique.
Best,
Maeve
