Hello, everyone! =) I'm new here and I would like to know about the meeting. Where is the place that all the KKLUG members will meet together? My question is about the KKLUG in Sabah. Thank you!

Hey "skaterz", welcome!  We've mostly switched over to a Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/sabahopensource

We don't really meet separately as KKLUG any more.  Even when we did, it was mostly a teh tarik session where we'd chat and it wasn't necessarily about Linux.

Several of the active members have also become part of WebCamp KK, which is also organized as a Fb group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/webcamp.kk/

WebCamp usually meets on the first Tuesday of every month at Wisma Bandaraya right in KK city center.  We just met last night (2 April).  There's no Linux focus at WebCamp, but those of us who are members of KKLUG are always happy to talk about Linux.

There's no reason we couldn't meet again at another time as KKLUG.  We'd just send a message out recommending a time and see who can make it.

If you use Facebook, I highly recommend both the SOSG and WebCamp groups and if you really want to connect with tech groups in Malaysia, I'll recommend a few others to you, too.  Just ask.  If you don't like Facebook, that's fine.  You can still use this mailing list.  I've already taken your email address out of the moderation list so it'll go straight through next time.

If you show up to WebCamp KK and don't know anyone, just look for the mat salleh... I'm usually the only one.  I go almost every time.  I'm American, but I've lived in KK for several years already.

We're an informal group, but if we have a leader, it's Edham Arief.  I'm sure he'll get this, too, and he almost always goes to the WebCamp meetups, too.

Ok, so now you tell us about you... You said you're new "here".  Do you mean new to Malaysia?  Are you a foreigner like me, or are you new to KK maybe coming from somewhere else in MY?  Can we have a better name?  Calling you "skaterz crowdmetal" is a little weird.

Oh! Thank you for your attention. Yes .. I was interested in joining the club to learn more about open source. I live in KK and I studied at a private college. I recently completed a project that in my opinion I need to learn more. And I would consider to have Facebook in the future. But in my opinion, email is better. Since I only need to join the club without having to have a Facebook.  By the way, just call me Jo. That's my nickname. Thanks Vince... I would like to have a discussion. But, if I don't have any idea.. I just keep silent here. Actually, I am looking into the idea of ​​learning.

Okay Jo, that's fine.  It's a quiet list these days, but there are a bunch of us subscribed so just ask if you have any questions.

One site you could check out is http://linuxzoo.net  They have free Linux tutorials and even allow you to set up a Linux virtual machine to use while you go through the tutorials and quizzes.

If you're not ready to dedicate a computer to Linux yet, you should get a copy of VirtualBox (https://www.virtualbox.org/ ) and load a Linux distribution in that.

Which distribution, or distro, to load is a topic of intense debate.  I recommend Linux Mint with the Cinnamon Desktop Environment.  It's based on Ubuntu, but it doesn't have most of the controversial changes that make Ubuntu significantly different from other distros.
