Hi,

I'm trying to understand the difference between buildozer's android and android_new.

Also, on the kivy github page I see "android_old" as well, yet no mention of android_new.

If I'm using the latest buildozer, what is the recommended choice - android or android_new?

is android_new now simply android?

Thanks for any help. :)

-Brent

Android_old: Built under Pygame
Android_new: built under SDL2

android and android_new use the new, completely rewritten python-for-android toolchain. This is the only supported build method. You can use the old method via android_old, and it will probably keep working, but any bugs or problems will probably not be fixed.

A major change in the current toolchain is the use of SDL2 instead of pygame, but I'll note that the old pygame backend is still supported by the new toolchain.

Thanks for the replies.

Since posting I see the latest of everything (py4a, buildozer, et.al.) is pointing towards SDL2 and the regular android target is SDL2.

Working to migrate forward, definitely want to enjoy the latest fixes and performance enhancements.

One unexpected benefit is my app launches faster on android; one device that took 6-7 seconds to show my home view only takes 3 seconds now!

Thanks again,
-Brent
