Large size difference for same account on different platforms

One of my installs of K-9 shows a much larger size for one particular account (IMAP) than on two of the other platforms I have K-9 on. In all installs, I have a maximum of 1000 messages. It seems the option to compress an account is no longer possible in the latest update of K-9.

What might be the reason for this more than two-fold difference in account size?

I would try exporting settings from one of the devices showing a constant size and importing them to the one that's inconsistent. Might be some weird setting difference.

Also make sure all three devices are running the same version of code.
