Request for Permission to Use JASPAR Motif Scan and Logo Images in a Manuscript

Dear JASPAR Team,

My name is Tadashi Abe, and I am a member of the Department of Surgery at Kyushu University Beppu Hospital in Japan.

I am currently preparing to submit a manuscript to the journal Cancer Science (https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/journal/13497006).

In this manuscript, I intend to include a screenshot of the motif scan results and the motif logo obtained from the JASPAR website as part of one of the figures (please see the attached image).

Upon submission, I received the following instruction from the journal:

G. Tables or Figures from Another Resource: If tables or figures have been reproduced from another source, please state that you obtained written permission from the copyright owners to reproduce the material.            

Please state whether tables or figures from another resource are included or not in the cover letter at the original submission. If not applicable, please write n/a.

I would like to ask:

• Is it possible to obtain written permission to include these images in my manuscript submission to Cancer Science?

• Or, are these images free to use without written permission, such that I may include them without concern for copyright restrictions?

Hi Tadashi,

JASPAR database and its associated tools are licensed under open source. You do not need a permission, but you need to cite our latest JASPAR release article or the version you’ve used for your paper. Find more information here:
