I'm looking to disable what I think might be a relatively new feature. iTerm2 seems to have some sort of scrollbar minimap. My fish prompt is blue, which each of these lines seem to represent. At times the output of my terminal is other colours like red and yellow which also seem to be captured. The only way I can figure out to hide it is disabling the scrollbar altogether, which isn't ideal. Wondering if anyone has any idea what this feature is called or whether it's possible to disable?

r/iterm - How can I disable scrollbar "minimap"

Thanks!

Is there some other requirement?
Both settings show yes but I'm not seeing the minimap the original poster showed.
I don't have anything for a scroll area...

ah, Settings -> Appearance -> Windows -> Aesthetics:  Hide Scrollbars
was selected.

I can't get it either. I have both experimental features set to Yes and Hide Scrollbars not checked. Anything else I should look at?

Brian, the feature is the marks minimap in the scroll bar. The colored lines are command/prompt marks colored by exit status (blue = exited 0, red = nonzero exit, yellow/gray = other), plus search-result locations. It's controlled by two settings under Settings > Advanced (gear icon) in the section "Experimental Features." Use the search field there and type "scroll bar" or "prompt locations" to find them.

Two options:

- To hide just the colored prompt/command marks but keep search-result locations, set "Show prompt locations in scroll bar?" to No.
- To hide the whole overlay (marks and search results), set "Show search result and prompt locations in scroll bar." to No.

One catch that's probably why it looked like nothing was happening: the setting only takes effect on restart (or in new sessions), not in your existing windows. So flip it, then restart iTerm2. The scrollbar itself stays; only the colored minimap goes away.

If that doesn’t do it, file an issue at https://iterm2.com/bugs and attach your plist file and I’ll try to reproduce it locally.
