Help needed in Migration from Netapp to Isilon

Hi Guys, I am into a migration based project where Migrating from Netapp to Isilon is my primary task. I have been hired as a resource based on my certification in Isilon but I do not have specific practical experience in above said kind of migration. I have been informed that the management has decided to go with isivolcopy as the tool which was recommended by the Isilon team over the other options such as robocopy/rsync.

I am finding it tough to get support in this regard, isivolcopy being a comparatively new tool.

Any docs in this regard, or support from people experienced in this task will be appreciated and grateful.

isi_vol_copy is simple to use. It's very similar to NetApp ndmpcopy.
On the isilon cluster, just run the command and you will see the
syntax.

Usage: isi_vol_copy <src_filer>:<src_dir> <dest_dir>
[-sa user: | user:password]
[-sport ndmp_src_port]
[-full | -incr]
[-dhost dest_ip_addr]
[-h]

Defaults:
src_auth_user = root
src_auth_password =
ndmp_src_port = 0 (0 means NDMP default, usually 10000)
dest_ip_addr = none

What you need is a ndmpd user and password on the NetApp side. Also,
make sure you change the NetApp filer options for ndmpd.authtype to
plaintext.

For example:
NetAppFiler options ndmpd.authtype plaintext

Then you are all set.

Thanks Tran ! That was a straight forward and helpful.

As you have updated me on how to use Isilon.....can you also help in issues while copying. 

Like, I heard, though copying CIFS and NFS shares may not be an issue, copying files from Netapp that are mixed protocol based is a troublesome area.

How do you convert the file permissions and make sure the share is properly migrated from Netapp based permissions to Isilon supported ?

   To make my question short.... Does isivolcopy take care of migrating the data along with the permissions and convert them into Isilon compatiable by default.....or does volcopy only copies data and we have to use some other tool for changing file permissions? Hope am clear...!

In our NetApp environment, we only use UNIX or NTFS security style and
not MIXED. However, because isi_vol_copy copy over ACLs like
robocopy, it should just work.

It's easy to test. Start a test migration, then on Isilon, create a
SMB share for it. Modify the isi smb permission on that share to
match what was on NetApp. Then create your nfs exports if needed.
Then test it out or ask the user to test it out.

You may want to work with Isilon to help you set up your Isilon global
ACL Policies to match as close as possible to your NetApp environment.
That is important if you want the data migrated over to Isilon to
behave the same way as it was on NetApp.

ls -lde filename on the isilon to get the extended ACLs.

You can use this to see if fancy ACLs were copied over I believe.

Be very sure you are on the latest build or near latest build.  There were bugs in older revisions of isi_vol_copy that would leave the data securities missing information. (rev 6.5.5)

As of OneFS 6.5.5.6, Isilon no longer has the requirement of specifying plaintext on the NetApp. OneFS 6.5.5.6 and newer can utilize the authtype of 'challenge'
