Isilon shutdown and startup ?

Hi all,

 I can't find some information on this ( in particular for the startup ) subject.

We need to move an Isilon from one location to another. 

I know I can shutdown by a bunch of procedure ( isi config or even the web ui ) but can't find nothing about the correct procedure for switch it back on after the moving.

I know that every cable should b connected to the same previous position on Infiniband and this would be assured by some labels.

Is it enough to switch on the nodes in sequences ? Is it better to switch them on at the same moment ( or at lest quite in the same moment ) or what ?

When you turn the cluster back on ensure that you do not do so simultaneously.  Power on node 1 -3 giving each a minute or two between..that accomplishes quorum.  The rest of the nodes should be staggered on power up as well so that they have an opportunity to register.

My thinking was that if the cluster detect that one node is missing, it will start to recompute protection for data ( FlexProtect ) and may get somewhat confused if the node get back while FlexProtect is running. 

I'll follow your procedure, which sounds very good.

That’s not (quite) how the Force works...

The cluster will always be optimistic for missing nodes to come back.

FlexProtect for absent nodes will only run if an admin explicitly
declares a node as finally gone. Two methods for two scenarios:
Smartfail (graceful decommissioning of an online node)
and Stopfail (confirm loss after node disaster).

Note that this is different from how broken drives are treated:
the cluster by itself can declare a disk as failed and run FlexProtect
when certain errors or silence are observed
for the disk whithin some time interval.
