Hi

First time with IOIO, just received a IOIO OTG and plugged it in my PC but nothing happens.

A green led light turns on and thats it.

I checked on the internetand windows should ask for a driver but nothing happens.

I am new to all this but looks like it does not start well :-(

Any help would be appriciated.

Green light = unknown manufacturer, so there's a limited extent to my ability to predict what's wrong.
Some things to check / try:
  1. Host mode switch should be in the "A" position.
  2. Trim pot all the way clockwise.
  3. You can try booting it into bootloader mode (read about ioiodude on the wiki) and see whether it is recognized this way.
  4. Otherwise, try configuration wipe (also on that page).
  5. Otherwise you may have a board that has not been correctly flashed with a bootloader and/or has malfunctioning hardware.

Hi

Thank you for your reply, I purchased this because it was stated like this :

Note: This product is a collaboration with Ytai Ben-Tsvi. A portion of each sales goes back to them for product support and continued development.

Could you confirm that this is correct, here is the link below:

Otherwise N°3 did the trick, windows made his "boing" noise and I was able to install the driver... I can see IOIO-OTG as com4 now.

Kind regards
Patrick from France

This is definitely incorrect. I have no idea who these guys are. I'm not expecting me to pay me, but they should at least not write that they do (which is likely because they copied the SparkFun product description without even reading it).

Well if this item is a copy and if you have any copywrights on it, or they are not suppose to copy it, I will open an ebay dispute that this item is counterfeit.

Do you want me to send you pictures of this IOIO, I just want to be shure that the IOIO board is counterfeit ???

Thanks for caring!
There's no such thing as counterfeit in this case: the IOIO is open source, royalty-free software and hardware. Anyone is welcome to make and sell them. Buy those at your own risk: I've seen various cheap "clones" that are of very poor quality. Sometimes they change parts in order to shave a few cents and do not make sure the new ones are compatible, sometimes the PCB is of poor quality, and most likely they do not do any sort of end to end testing on those boards. The boards sold by SparkFun and SeeedStudio have both been carefully inspected for quality, both manufacturers have built custom test rigs that do end-to-end testing on each individual board.

Having that said, using the SparkFun or SeeedStudio logo on such a board (which I've seen in the past, although not in your case) or copying the wording from the SparkFun website or claiming they're paying me royalty while they're not is totally uncool. So filing a dispute and/or rating them poorly on eBay seems legit.

Dear Ytai

After lots of email exchange whith them and time consuming, I had them to delete: That part of this board purchase was going to you. As for the sparkfun copy of the text !!!!

See their new add here :

As I was ready to open a dispute and leave them a negative feedback they offered a complete refund of the board, as I found unfaire that I cannot use the help I need as this board was not purchased with any help from you.

As I do not want to spend hours to make it just recognized by windows without having to short pins, I will purchase one at sparkfun or any other seller in the list.

I will keep you posted.

Regards
invitro59 from France.

Thanks!
Just to make it clear: I do not refuse to help people who hasn't bought the boards from the primary vendors. I've made the IOIO open source so that it can be made and sold by anyone. However, I've seen several examples of really poorly made boards out there, and it is hard for me to help debug hardware issues when it is not clear that the person I'm talking to is holding the same circuit I'm expecting.

Dear Ytai

I published a picture of the board received.

Did you receive it ?

I need to control temperature, humidity, fan on periods with some off time, then temperature has to decline slowly over a 12 hours period also with some rest time.

regards
patrick

Then I tried to upload the blink app but it just sits and nothing happens

here is the command :

ioiodude --port=4 --reset write Blink-IOIO0003.ioioapp

nothing happens may be I do something wrong

Hi

Must have been tired that night

Blink test works, uploaded right away thanks
I tried to install the last bootloader but I get this answer from the command line as this board has a Platform version: IOIO0030

C:\Dude>ioiodude --port=COM23 --reset write DevBoot-IOIO0401-App-IOIO0500.ioioimg
Application bundle does not include an image for the platform IOIO0030

C:\Dude>ioiodude --port=COM23 versions
IOIO Bootloader detected.

Hardware version: SPRK0020
Bootloader version: IOIO0400
Platform version: IOIO0030

You cannot update the bootloader using ioiodude. This is intentional, so that there's no way to brick the IOIO. The only way to upgrade the bootloader is using a PIC programmer (or a second IOIO acting as one). Having said that, there's probably no reason for you to upgrade your bootloader anyway
