If flowers are 1.5 inch (or more) in diam. it maybe Clematis heynei (ref. FBI), but I'm not sure, for I do not know the species distribution in Maharashtra and I haven't seen any single species of this genus!

If you can, you may provide the  better close up of the flowers and leaves.  The fruits photograph is also important in the ID.  All details are necessary as it is very difficult to  pin point the species which has so many species resembling very closely.  Is this plant growing wild or cultivated.

This is regarding  Clematis.   Recently I wrote an article for a local  news paper   on Clematis (C. flammula).  I am attaching the article along with the photographs.     You may add this to your  write up, wherein you have summed up Indian Clematis species.

Yes, i agree, if it is cultivated it cannot be identified without detail of the specimen.
