I have seen a couple of specimens of this species in CAL, collected from a cultivated plant in the Indian Botanic Garden.  It is however not surviving at present.

Thank you TSP ji for this kind information.  I wonder as to how and from where they procured the saplings.  I am including this species as an Ornamental in Karnataka in my list. I am archiving this post of yours as a point of reference.

Tapasji,Thanks for the inputs. The saplings were raised in the Forestt Department Nurseries by dibbling seeds in polythene containers containing red earth, sand and manure in the ratio of 1:1:1.....In fact I was the local officer at that point of  time. It was the initiative of the Nursery-in-charge who brought the seeds from ??? source.I have to confess that we did not check the source. No particular package of practice was followed for this exotic. It was treated on par with the other species that were raised in the Forest Department Nurseries. It caught our attention because of the phenomenal rate of growth, growing up to 12 ft in an year....or even more...!  At that point of time we thought that it was a suitable species to plant by the roadsides.Only later we realized that the tree is very soft and susceptible to damage by wind.I do not think that it is now grown in the nurseries on a regular basis in that part now.

TSP ji,
We are indeed proud of our Forest Departments for such efforts.  During my long tenure in a Survey dept. I found the Forest officials all over India (where ever I visited) very helpful starting from according permission to visit a Reserve and ending with providing  shelter, transport and manpower for field explorations.  The Defence personnel are also equally helpful.
Regards,
Tapas.

I think it should be Enterolobium cyclocarpum (Jacq.) Griseb. as per images herein.

Usha ji,
It is a very large tree with a trunk diameter in excess  of 1.5 m growing to a height of more than 25 m.I have not seen a natural stand. It was planted by the Forest Dept. in the mid eighties to nineties in Tumkur Dist,Karnataka. Recently the FD  has given up raising them in the nurseries. Many trees were cut down to widen the roads. No demand for wood. Not fit even for fuel since it produces lot of smoke and no calorific value.
