Thank you Sir, Bimal Da also suggested Flemingia and the closest species I could find is Flemingia strobilifera (L.) W.T.Aiton.

Thank you very much Madam. But the leaves seem to be not trifoliolate. I agree that the picture is not clear though. Attaching the entire frame I captured.

It is Phyllodium longipes (Craib) Schindl. (Fabaceae).
As mentioned with picture in "Plants of Indian Botanic Garden" by H.J.Chowdhery and D.S.Pandey (2007).

Sir,

This book is presently not available in the bookstores. Can you please tell if this book features or refers to a palm, forest-bismarckia (Satranala decussilvae)?

Thank you

This plant is planted along the main path at the AH soc garden ALipore
they introduced it to local gardeners as a curiosity, SUrajit You'll find them  if you walk to your right after coming out of the main office.

they look wonderful in the summer, nice curious plants with long tail hanging.
now many gardens sport them but in winter they rather look sad but add color and some height and texture to the rows by the wall.

Yes, Didi, perhaps the first photograph in this thread is from the same place where, if I remember well, a few bungalow type quarters located.

Thank you

Surajit
yes that book is not available  at any of the internet booksellers.

ANd curiously none of the indian universities list their books in world-cat...
I found a copy each at uc berkeley and Ithaca!!!!
but Indian universities take the cake... no listing!!! of an indian book about indian flora...written by an indian and published in india...  and a long ago,,,, only 2005!!

Found a reading library .. of the BSI near the indian museum  ... but no catalogue on the net...  may be its possible to look at the book there.

Next will be to go to BSI headquarters in Salt lake..  and see if they will sell a  book ...

Didi,

I placed an order to http://www.indianbooks.co.in/bookmart/plants-of-indian-botanic-garden.html but they informed that they are sorry the book was not available with them.... the seller failed to update the page status.... etc.

Yesterday visited several big stores at College St., including 'Dasgupta & CO...', they said, "there are no taker of these kind of books, so we cannot afford to shelve.... we remember you searched for 'flora of Howrah..' last year... yet we could not retrieve it from anywhere...!!!"

Wish to know distribution mechanism of BSI pub. Couldn't find any info in their website. There is one site with some titles - http://www.vedamsbooks.in/bsicat.htm.

Thank you.
