I have a class bioblitz set up as a collection project, but would like to limit it to only class members who have joined, AND the project is currently active, https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/fall-2018-es-193cs-harvest-holiday-inaturalist.

How can I do this at this point, or limit the collection project to only those who have actually joined it- the members?
Thanks,
Daniela

There is no functionality to switch from collection to traditional, just the other way.

You can via the project rules restrict whose observations are added by adding the desired user names.

can't you add the names of all the students to the collection project and it will jut add their observations automatically?

You do not "join" a collections project - that is automatically handled by the filters that you select.
You can add multiple values to these filters, for example, by adding all your class members under the user filter.  The project will then be confined to those users whom you have selected - which sounds exactly like what you want..

Just to clarify, you *can* join a collection project, but that pretty much only means you will get notified of new project journal posts, it has nothing to with which observations are "in" in the project. Tony is correct that the best way to restrict observations to only students in your class is to add their usernames to the project requirements, which it looks like you've done.

i do wish there were a way to see more of the collection projects my observation is added to. Maybe a dropdown list or something so it's not clutter. I can see the ones i have subscribed to but there may be other ones i can't see...

I agree with Charlie. Also I would like to have an easy way of seeing the list of users who, by virtue of being administrators of projects, are able to see my obscured obs.

Hi Chris, that makes sense, but just as a reminder to anyone who doesn't know, collection project administrators can't see your obscured locations.

I second that, and as an administrator of projects set up for each of our nature preserves (for local land conservancy), I would love for people to know that they just contributed to our conservation efforts when they made an iNaturalist observation on one of our properties.

I presume that everyone knows that if you join a Collections Project, all your observations that qualify will display that project in the Projects panel on the right hand side.
So for keen users who are contributing significantly to one's project, one could ask them to join the project, not only to see the journal updates, but to have the projects as a "badge" on their observations.

The issue is thus which unknown and unjoined projects an observation might contribute to.   There might be many dozens of these ( there are over 7000 projects), so merely displaying them all would be a huge clutter.   Perhaps an option would be a button to "show all projects that this observation is a member of" - which would open a panel with a list of the projects?
I am sure many people are unaware of project that they are contributing to, that they would love to join!

I like that idea Tony. Also, I can get a list of all the users who have contributing observations and send them an invite to join the project. Just would take some time.

Follow your joy,

Tony's idea is something we have discussed, I think it was more of an issue of getting the current badge system out to at least get things to the current state. I'll see if the "show all projects that this observation is a member of" can be implemented anytime soon.
