Yesterday I made about 20 iNaturalist observations, and have automatic upload turned off.   I pressed upload and only 1 of the 20 uploaded.    I keep pressing it and sometimes 1 or 2 upload, or sometimes none at all.   It looks like if I press it enough times I'll be able to get all of them uploaded.   Any idea what is going on here?

The wifi connection is good and I am using an Android based Samsung S7 with the newest OS and iNat version 1.9.0(294).

Hey Alan,

So when you tap on Upload, one or two observations are uploaded and then the uploading animation stops? Are you on a consistent strong internet connection?

The next time this happens can you please immediately go to Settings in the iNaturalist app and triple-tap on the version number? This will send a log file to he...@inaturalist.org and our Android developer can take a look at it to see what's happening.

I think the internet connection is pretty good - here are the ping stats:

--- 4.2.2.2 ping statistics ---
2239 packets transmitted, 2233 received, 0% packet loss, time 2240878ms
rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 34.946/70.912/468.198/57.157 ms

I sent the log file to the developer.

Thanks

-Alan

I also have this problem multiple times. I put 30 phtoos, observations in a queue and it stops after 1,2,3 photos. so i have to activate it again. I just updated the iNaturlist app..so now i have another version than the last 9 months.
The SETTINGS tab is ONLY visible if you are on the ME tabblad ?
And it is the radarwheel on the right top corner ?

Hi Andre,

Are you using the Android app or the iOS app? If you are using the iOS app, then yes, the gear icon in the upper right-hand corner of the Me tab is how you can access your Settings.

If you are using an Android, you can access the Settings tab in the pull-out side menu.

If you are using Android, try restarting your phone to see if that clears up the uploading issue. Looking at the log file from Alan, our Android developer suspected it had to do with the device and not with the iNat app. Alan, did that work for you?

Restarting the device did not help, however I am inclined to agree with the Android developer because around the time this problem started the phone stopped being able to access the internet via the cellular connection.    I am going to reset the device and reinstall everything, will let you know if that helps.

Resetting the device to its default state and reinstalling all apps worked, it now uploads all observations when I press upload.

Thanks for responding, Alan, glad it's working now. Andre, are you still experiencing any issues?

Yes, i uses iOs11 on iPhone6 and it often happend. May be the battery saving option is an issue.
But it immediately stops when i turn to another application to read email or news or upload photos to something else.
When i return to iNaturalist it is not continueing the upload.
Is iNaturalist also using quite some battery power in the field ? May be i am returning to the website foruploading.

How does the iphone inaturalist app work ?
Does it make my 8MP iphone photos smaller before uploading or are the 8MP uploaded and make smaller on de inaturalist webserver ? If the full image is uploaded first the risk of a stop on a standard internet line might be a bit higer ?

I was also wondering what the limits are...
seems the limits are still 2000 pixels

The iOS app resizes the photo before uploading it to iNaturalist's servers.

As for the app not uploading in the background, you are correct, you have to have the app open for uploads to continue.
