Hi all, I'm new to Atom - we're looking at it on behalf of a client and will need to integrate it with other systems, in particular the CMS they use to manage their website. In light of that I'm wondering if Atom (2) has an API? I don't find any mention of it in the docs... :?

Hi Nathan,

Unfortunately AtoM doesn't expose data through an API yet. What system were you wanting AtoM to interface with?

Regards,
Jessica

Hi Jessica

We're using EllisLab ExpressionEngine as a CMS. We want to maintain a separate index in the CMS of buildings which will have related entries (photos for example) in Atom so we're looking at how might create a connection between records in the two systems.

We are facing a similar challenge in the near future for a specific customer but we haven't prototype how is going to look like yet. If you are in a rush, I'd recommend you to create a plugin in AtoM where you can add the necessary endpoints that you need. If you go that way you may save a lot of time by reusing all the code you need from AtoM, like access control, etc... as you may know, AtoM is still using the ancient web framework Symfony 1.4. Obviously, not the best framework out there but still pretty flexible for certain things, e.g. you could build your own Symfony plugin that implements your own routes, libraries, controllers, etc... on top of the existing core of the application.

Let me know if you need more help!

Regards,

I think that's probably beyond my capabilities but is it something that might be provided as a service by yourselves if the client is going the hosted route?

Hi Nathan,

Sorry for the delay in responding. At this time, offering an API is not part of the services that Artefactual provides with its standard hosting packages. You can find the details of the hosting services we offer on our website, here: http://www.artefactual.com/services/atom-2/site-hosting/

Note that a blank sample SLA is also available on the page for review. That said, if a client were interesting in contracting us to develop an API and/or provide this as part of a hosting plan, we would be happy to discuss it off-list - we can be contacted at info(at)artefactual.com.

Cheers,
