Does anybody know of a tool/library for opening the Oxford Inca
project files (.ipj)?

Hyperspy cannot open ipj files. I have never used that particular software so I cannot be of much help. Can't it export to some format that can be opened by ImageJ or Hyperspy? e.g. Brucker's EDS software can export to Ripple (I think that they call it raw), and Ripple files can be opened by Hyperspy and DM using the ImportRPL plugin.

I'm replying to you only, you can rely further. Inca can export to raw...takes forever, and maybe you should come see it try... It's not fast, and I've read these files with minimal success into imagej and Digital Micrograph.

I usually export EDX maps (spectrum images) as raw data from Inca, that I later import with DM and turn them into dm3 files (3D datacubes) for analysis. Dm3 files could later be exported to Hyperspy. Inca can also export individual spectra as emsa files, which might be open by Hyperspy directly. Alternatively, and since they can easily be opened by DM, dm3s could be used as an intermediate format before importing with Hyperspy.

I hope this helps.

Hi Mustafa,

I am not sure I can help you. Maybe it's linked to a key problem. Which version of INCA do you use?

There is a good news about the .rpl exported by INCA. The .rpl will be read directly in the future version 0.7 of hyperspy.

Happy new year!

INCA is a company software and .ipj is a closed format. I haven't heard of any other software able to open .ipj. You should try to contact an Oxford ingenior to help you.

.rpl or ripple is an open format. INCA export raw data in this format.

Kind regards

Pierre

I am trying to also use a ipj file - that has been taken from an online inca system to be used on an offline inca system. However when trying to open it, it states it is not saved in a storage file format. Does anyone know what this means?

I don't know exactly what it means. I faced problem of .ipj compatibility. I solved it saving the file in a different version. When saving ipj file, there is several options in the file type. Try another version of ipj. It might solve your problem.

Hi Maria,

Unfortunately HyperSpy currently does not support the import of Inca project files, nor is there a large push for support (honestly, non of the current developers use Inca, so the chances of it getting put in is probably low). Otherwise, from the Inca software you should be able to export spectrum image maps as .raw/.rpl files and import those into HyperSpy individually. Individual spectra can likely also be exported in a readable format (.msa, most likely). I have not used Inca in some time, so my memory may be a bit off, but I believe that data export is possible.

Also, this is a forum for HyperSpy, an open-source software package. Please do not discuss the sharing of any commercial software on this forum. Since it is a licensed commercial product, Inca is not freely shareable, and to do so would be illegal software piracy (which is obviously not condoned by the HyperSpy developers).

Good luck,
Josh
