Message from Vee regarding this special election

I have been coming to HeatSync for 11 years, and been on the board for eight of those years. Many of you may remember me as a person who has expelled people for racist, sexist and transphobic comments. If you remember back far enough, you'll remember I actually have a child who I have brought to the lab. 

This child is not mine by blood, as I am an asexual virgin, but this child is mine in every way that matters. I have fostered this child since he was six years old. He was the sweetest little boy. 

Today, my child goes by Vee and is genderfluid. They were just voted prom queen at school. I couldn't be more proud of my kid for their bravery. 

Yesterday, Vee was able to fill out their first ballot! We voted entirely blue, as we are registered Democrats. We chose between two excellent people in some cases, some who emphasized homeless rights, some who emphasized disability rights. We voted for Navajos who want people to have drinking water. I could not have been more proud of my beautiful child. 

We talked about David Lang, and Luis Montes, Sr. Vee was unimpressed with the views of DL. She was very upset by many of them. Vee was far more upset by the bullying behaviors I described about LMS. Vee said DL should be watched carefully, but real action against real people hurts more. Vee said they were not a fan of DL, especially the comment about retaining a male appendage, which my child does, but would choose him over LMS based on the existing data. Bear in mind that Vee knew LMS for more than half his life. Vee does not know DL but would be willing to go to lunch and discuss things with him because I assured Vee he has never used slurs or laughed at vulnerable people.

People need to accept that people have views that others don't like. I certainly don't love DL's views. DL, I just voted the opposite of you in every way. But he isn't trying to hurt people with words in the space like those people I helped throw out. People who used hate speech and slurs, some of the worst rhetorical violence there is. 

Not all conservatives are monsters who want to hurt people like Vee. Not all liberals are intolerant of differing views and support political violence. We will never heal as a community, as a country or as a world this way. 

People will vote how they want today at HYH, and I will accept it, but no one will call me a transphobe. I did all of this with the guidance of my gay father and my trans/genderfluid child.

However the vote goes, I hope HSL can move on and grow, but I am concerned.

I feel bad enough arguing with a bedridden dying woman.  And I thought about not commenting on this post as the election tonight is what matters.  But whether you intended it or not, in my opinion, this post shows a greater lack of judgement than your poll.  Here, by all appearances, you are exploiting your child to sway an election, and/or to repair your reputation.  You could have just said, "here is my child at their graduation, whom I love and am very proud of".

I would call for some calm. This appears to be a forwarded message. It is someone attempting to use some logic in a calm way. It was not forwarded to the group with enough context I think.

My kid hasn't wanted to come for a long time because people they liked were bullied at HSL. My kid wasn't permitted to make any statements until they turned 18 and wanted to do so. I would never exploit my child. I did this all for my dad and child. If they asked me to do anything different here, I would in an instant. I deferred to them since they were affected LGBTQIA persons, and I am also both asexual and intersex. There's a reason I haven't even brought up my child until now and that's because I didn't have their permission or invitation. Do not call me a child exploiter. Do not question my love for my child. You think I care about DL over MY CHILD? My kid and I never even talked about it until last night when they insisted on knowing why I am so unhappy. 

And making a statement between candidates is not "swaying" an election. It's called making a statement that disagrees with your own view. You are possibly the most escalatory person I have ever encountered, Kirk. You see the absolute worst in people. You think I have a reputation to salvage? I'm going to die, and I want peace and for people to stop being radical before I do.

These few people have hurt my family of LGBTQIA people far more than DL ever could. I'm done with HSL. Believe what you want of me.
