login fails when multiple users login simultaneously

Actually i am facing issue in login. When multiple users login simultaneously the login fails as it shows connection not established despite of entering correct access & verify code.

What i was trying to ask was that is there any parameter which defines the number of users for concurrent login. If yes then how can we check that and if required can be changed. 

Can it be the RPC issue which checks for login..??

I am using GT.M.

I am using a web application which connects to vista through RPCs. Its an angular js and java application. Out of 6-7 login attempts it gets successful once.

What are you using to communicate from Java to VistA? Write a unit test that performs the login multiple times for various user accounts? Does it pass?

Assuming that the users are set up with the correct primary or secondary menus, this looks to me like either a failure of the web application to create the context, in which case the application would still work for users with certain elevated rights, OR a failure of the web application to maintain the connection state, in which case it has lost the context prior to the call to ORWU USERINFO.  I would guess that the latter is the culprit based on the symptoms you describe.

Hi Joe,

We have 2 vista servers. 1 is the production and the second one is the exact replica of production server.

When we are hitting prod vista using our web application out of 6-7 login attempts it gets login once or twice. But when we are doing it with the replica server our web application is getting login every time we do.

will this may still be a connection failure issue??

what else we can check at our end to detect the root cause of the issue??

That’s very interesting!  It does sound like a connection state issue, but I’m not an expert on that.  Perhaps someone with more knowledge on the subject could offer some suggestions.  You may want to list which web server application you are using.  If you know mumps you may be able to debug this in the RPC calls.

Have you checked Taskman and to be sure your jobs limit is not exceeded, etc.
Monitor taskman to make sure your resources are OK and run XUTM CLEAN to see
if the problem goes away when you do.

There was a recent kernel patch that fixed some login issues when the system was under high load (wether it affects GT.M or not I didn't look into)

Rachit, what library are you using? If you are using Chris U's, it would explain the problem right away. It has no cipher pads built in.

... a cipher pad is not required for it to talk w/foia and non-foia systems; unless you are using a custom cipher algorithm on the VistA end.

In CPRS while changing the password we are getting the error message

"The remote procedure XUS CVC is not registered to the option OR CPRS GUI CHART."

Apart from this the login failure issue that is being discussed is now coming in CPRS as well.

These errors go hand in hand.  If the signon context is not being properly created, then the XUS remote procedures will not run without being registered, in this case to the option for CPRS.  Could it be that you have a mix of patches and/or custom modifications that don’t work together?  It sounds to me like you have something wrong in the XUS routines…

Do you know how to register and RPC for CPRS? Here is the remote procedure:

Exactly!  That’s what I meant.  So wouldn’t you think that the problem is resultant from some problem with creating the signon context properly?  Still looks to me like somebody has changed the XUS routines!

In CPRS while changing the password we are getting the error message

 

"The remote procedure XUS CVC is not registered to the option OR CPRS GUI CHART."

Actually this RPC is not "registered in OR CPRS GUI CHART" in WorldVistA EHR
but people can sign on with no problem. So it is obvious I am missing peices,
etc. My obvious lack of technical knowledge is showing.

The remote procedure "XUS CVC" is included under the context option "XUS SIGNON," which is the context that is used before the user has been fully authenticated.  I do not know why it is then trying to do this under the CPRS context, which would only be activated after the user is fully authenticated (and that authentication would include the changing of the Verify Code if the user specified it during sign-on).

To echo what others are saying, let me briefly describe the security system

-- It is not OK to let the user run whatever RPC they want without approval.  They could thereby access privileged code on the server with the server having no control.  So the designers anticipated this and created a system to put the server in charge of what can be done.  The client application has to tell the the "context" that they want to run in.  So, for example, CPRS establishes a CPRS context.  And suddenly the CPRS application is allowed access to all the CPRS-related RPCS's

-- So why can a client not just tell the server it is some other application?  It could.  But those RPC's would not be available unless the user has been given specific permission on the serve to run that application.   So server configuration has to occur to specifically allow a user to run a certain application.  And then they can access all the RPC's assigned to that application.  Here is an overview of the process: http://vistapedia.net/index.php/RPC_HELP_Broker_Overview

-- The listing of all the RPC's that an application can run are stored in the OPTION file.  So the OE CPRS GUI CHART record has a multiple (subfile) field RPC's that list all the RPC's that can be run.

-- The applications that a user can access are established by them having this OPTION record in their SECONDARY MENUS multiple (subfile) field.  

-- There are a few RPC calls that can be called without a context.  There is one with a name something like IS RPC AVAILABLE, which returns if a RPC can be run.  And of course the RPC calls to establish the context are also allowed "bare".

Regarding why you are getting that application Memory Access error that you posted an image of, this is because of sloppy programming in Delphi.   When the RPC call is made, the results come back in a TStringList in the variable VRPCBroker.Results (I think, away from my system as I type this).  Typically VRPCBroker.Results[0] holds a status string about the success or failure of the call.  If no reply is returned then .Results.count=0 and it is invalid to try to access .Results[0].  So the proper way to program this would be to first check that a result was returned and handle that cases where it is not.  But instead someone assumed that a reply would be returned and attempts to access VRPCBroker.Results[0], leading to the access violation exception.

That problem showed up in an early version of the MDWS software by developers at the Ann Arbor VA where they created their own version of the RPCBroker in C#.  Several errors kept occurring, and I traced it to exactly this problem where they did not check the return value, and on an access failure continued trying to function with a DUZ value of zero.  I pointed this out to the developers and they did fix the problem.  So, I would assume that the version of the software being used here is the early version of the MDWS version of the RPCBroker.

I might remark that the developers at Ann Arbor who created MDWS were not sticklers for following rules or procedures.  I was told one time by one of them that if they followed all of the rules, then they would never get anything done either (which I gathered from that comment that I hadn't been able to get anything done in my work with the VA).

A minor point, but the Java Stack trace says you are using Chris Uyehara's code and not the MDWS code which some of us had thought.

Secondly, the error says the connection to a "new style RPC" is being rejected.  The new style RPC Broker stays with the original connection to the server. The old style RPC Broker will break the original connection and create a new one from the server back to the client machine. Unfortunately NAT routing makes a hash of this.

The code also refers to a namespace "com.tcs.hpp.wv." which implies that it is code written by WorldVistA. To my knowledge, it is not. I did a web search for this string and had no success tracing where it came from.
