As the time when a release candidate for GWT 2.8 was supposed to be make public has come and gone,  am re-posting a question asked in December 2014 about release dates

"Since I was expecting lambdas to appear in 2.7, now I'm checking for GWT 2.8 release announcement daily (or sometimes more often) :)
In several days I think I'll start behaving like Cartman (in South Park) waiting for Nintendo Wii release(btw, you can watch it here) :)

So, could anyone be so kind to shed some light on approximate GWT 2.8 with lambdas release date? Will it appear before New Year? Will it appear right before GWT.create conference or after?
  Please, help me :)"

Are we any closer to an answer than 11 months ago?

If not, I'm going to start looking at alternate transpilers to JavaScript for JVM languages (Kotlin looks interesting), and I will no longer be able to recommend GWT to others as a robust solution.

Hi!

I don't know if you've already found this before - but: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1pcFhOIFCQlgEUDPDa-gLovqCThGMHzgVIxdk96R6Bls/edit?usp=sharing -> those are notes from last steering committee:
"Plan to have final release in early December."

Kind regards,
david

Sure, there is already smoke testing going on for 2.8 and you can actually help testing, see: https://groups.google.com/d/msg/google-web-toolkit-contributors/eyilExl01uM/rRXbo3rGEAAJ

A release in December is reasonable.

If you don't want to recommend a robust solution just because it does not meet an announced release date, feel free to do so. Delaying a release can happen in any project. But luckily no one forces you to use GWT as a mature Java -> JS compiler ;-)

I appreciate the news, but this isn't just not meeting an announced release date - it's been pretty much a year.

I will certainly help with the testing!
