How to make a dynamic generated preview thumbnail of an user generated map/route?

Hello,

Is there a way we can generate a thumbnail of the map/route an user has created and saved?

I like to show some kind of litte preview

Any tips, info?

Pretty much what the Static Maps API is for :)

https://developers.google.com/maps/documentation/staticmaps/

The trick will be distilling down the content of the map, so as not to overwelm the little map (and cause a long URL for the API) - you possibly want to only plot a sample of features on the preview map.

Wow Barry, totally overlooked static maps. 

Thanks for pointing it out.

Do you have a tip on the distilling part. In my case some users have plotted a map with over 20 points. 

I was thinking of skipping every 3rd lat/lng so 20 points will be drawn by 7
