If I find a google reviewer who is repeatedly making clearly incorrect edits or reviews, even after being corrected in the comments on edits, how do I go about reporting them? Is there a email address to contact?

One thing you can do is to rate the edit and choose "report as spam" or "should have been denied".

Hi Tim,

Could you please post the link to the feature where the incorrect change was made so that we may look into it.

Thanks,

Raza, there is a similar thread at https://groups.google.com/d/topic/google-mapmaker/7azdZqd6bdU/discussion where there are unexplained edits (mostly for the worse) being made with unnamed profiles.

It's been two occasions now, both times it was to change a pair of ramps to a frontage/side road into turn segments (which are reserved for roads that intersect).

The first occasion was at Indianapolis International Airport on June 2nd, I objected, but it didn't seem to do anything, so I went ahead and edited it again (I may have been a little heated in my comments)

http://www.google.com/mapmaker?gw=39&fid=0x886ca6eba0e985c7:0xee5aee741c0dc6ff

(for some unknown reason, the segment usage was deleted a few days ago by http://www.google.com/mapmaker?uid=209891212269614529571&gw=66&hl=en , but that's another matter entirely...)

The second and more serious occasion is at the I-435 and Lackman interchange in Lenexa, KS on June 9th. I was able to correct it last night.

http://www.google.com/mapmaker?gw=39&fid=0x87c094e52b504553:0xca0025dd80d98b80

I can't verify that he made the actual edit because it doesn't say what he edited, but he's the only one in the edit history after the last known good edit.

On the first one, I think their argument is based on this page:

These are the connecting segments between lower-priority roads that bypass the direct intersection of the roads.

That being said, the second part of the sentence implies that there is a direct intersection, so this wouldn't be the best answer. Therefore, ramps would be the best answer. Taking a section from the page:

Unlike slip roads, ramps are only used in situations without intersections. A ramp can have any of the following characteristics:
  • It can be a sloped carriageway between roads with different elevations.
  • It merges onto or bifurcates off of a high priority road.
  • It can be part of an overpass.
  • It can be present on roads that have the same elevation.
  • It can be a part of an interchange.

Hey, great post. I was editing map info and ran across a company that seemed to have a lot of spam maps so I logged all of them and put them in a post for review. They are blatant spam. Anyway, someone called Drajj and Armond attacked me for this and called me a spammer which leads me to believe that the owners of the spammed maps are also somehow trying to edit out the competitors. I went back and had seen these two names as people that were actually responsible for editing and removing their competitors listings. Can someone please review these profiles and see that they are using their authority to eliminate competition.

Hello

Ok, I was looking over the lisitngs and it is pretty clear. Here are some of the attacking profiles.

Draj Seems to be attacking all non hunkomania businesses that may be competition to hunkomania. fishy. Perhaps you can find more info on you end about the edits this one is making. Can the IP address be banned to stop future spamming if it is a blatant violation?

Here is another attack against Cheds from some of the same profiles of hunkomania. They state that anyone and everyone trying to correct their spam must be owners of Savage Men. Here are some of the posts.

This one seems totally accurate from Cheds. I looked at the street view and satellite view and Cheds is correct. It seems even if Cheds is savage men, the information Cheds gave is correct. There seems to be only 1 savage men map location but several maps under hunkomania and having hunkomania web sites. This hunkomania thing is really getting out of hand. Is there a way to put their URLS on report to prevent rapid spamming?

Reason: Has wrong information - Cheds
I looked at the street view of this listing and found 1 small building with an address span of 501-511. On the street view the building sign says Westside Lounge not Hunkomania. I called Westside lounge from the web site and they said they are there and hunkomania just does a show there on Saturdays. I looked at the Hunkomania site and it says this as well. I would question Mary Anne and put this moderator on report for they seem to be the owners of hunkomania for trying diligently to get these false listings approved.

Mary Ann - attacked back with this.

Reason for editing : Correcting poor data
Map maker Cheds is actually Tracy James, the owner of Savage Men, a competing company of Hunkomania Male Strip Clubs. None of his community edits are to be trusted. He began mapmaking for the sole purpose of compromising his competition. Most of his edits are spam and inaccurate!

This attack on Cheds was from this other hunkomania profile -

This company is easy to spot because they have their business name in not only most of the titles but also in their urls.
They try and list addresses at casinos in Atlantic City that they are not at. In their adwords account it lists the correct address as 501 N Arkansas Ave. If you look at the Google picture of the street view you will see their name on the sign on that building. I guess once they got away with one spam listing they just went all out. 501 N Arkansas Ave is a Hijacked listing now. This was Westside Lounge and if you look at the street view picture you will see it is the only building on the block. It has an address spread of 501-511 N Arkansas Ave. This is accurate and visibly clear. Hunkomania preforms a show there once a week on Saturdays according to the Hunkomania web site at http://www.hunk-o-mania.com/ which violates the maps rules since they only preform their and do not own the building. They should be listed as a feature not as a owner.

http://maps.google.com/maps/place?hl=en&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.&biw=1280&bih=648&um=1&ie=UTF-8&q=atlantic+city+male+strippers&fb=1&gl=us&hq=male+strippers&hnear=0x89c0dd576e5cc721:0x4a6fcb43e9675262,Atlantic+City,+NJ&cid=16886159272204195796&ei=b5kCTvGkK-TWiAKnwe2WBQ&sa=X&oi=local_result&ct=placepage-link&resnum=4&ved=0CG8Q4gkwAw

Here is the 2nd Map that clearly is Hunkomania too but under another alias.

http://maps.google.com/maps/place?hl=en&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.&biw=1280&bih=648&um=1&ie=UTF-8&q=atlantic+city+male+strip+clubs&fb=1&gl=us&hq=male+strip+clubs&hnear=0x89c0dd576e5cc721:0x4a6fcb43e9675262,Atlantic+City,+NJ&cid=15587208502474435977&ei=G5kCTq-JCs3WiAKEiKWyBQ&sa=X&oi=local_result&ct=placepage-link&resnum=5&ved=0CFgQ4gkwBA

Here are the names associated with the business. Hunk-o-mania, Hunkomania, Hunkmania, Hunkamania, Manhattan Men, Top Notch, hunkmaniamalestripclub, usahunk, usahunks, hunkmaniausa, hunkomanianyc, hunkomaniaac, nycavalonnightclub, Atlantic City Thunder.

Most of these have urls under these names. Some of the urls even have the 501 address. The phone numbers all go to the same person when you call. The key is location address they list in adwords. All the rest are spam. They spam the titles as well now too. How can the business name of the same business have different keyword specific long tailed keywords in each title.

This url has an interview with armond the owner of hunkomania with him saying that hunkomania, usahunks, hunkmania and manhattan men, Atlantic City Hunks are all the same show.
http://www.bachelorettepartyindex.com/malestripclubinterview.html

I also traked the abuse from Fake Reviews that they post.

I even checked on the profiles of the review user names and all the reviews for these people are Hunkomania only.

REVIEW Profile - 28 reviews all to spamed Hunkomania related sites. There are even more Google Places spam listings here than I ever imagined. They have done the same spam in New Jersey and New York City. They have so many places listed here my head is spinning. All of the names I listed above as fake venues plus more are all listed in their fake user reviews. These reviews are posted it seems for all different locations on or around the same time periods. They must have 20 google accounts and keep rotating reviews to their listings.

1st user - 28 reviews - to Hunkomania listings

2nd user - 25 reviews - to hunkomania listings

The spam here is undeniable, is there a way to have this company sent a warning on their urls.
They also spam New York, Philadelphia and Chicago from what we see in the reviews findings.
Finding and removing this spam wastes time and money for all but is a necessity to keep all
listing relevant or the whole system would be chaos.

Hey Raza,

I am one of the owners of Savage Men and it seems as the profiles of Hunk-o-mania accounts are reported, they seem to be opening even more.
I think the only way to stop mass spam like this is to FLAG the urls from being able to make listings. I had a conversation with Armondo the owner of Hunk-o-mania and he is upset that his spam maps are being targeted fror removal. He believes that he should use any method possible to get ahead of the competition no matter how unethical. The abuse is spilling into other areas of Google like Adwords because of the Boost ADs you can create with map listings. He floods the Adwords spots with BOOST ads now. Some of the competitors have removed their listings because of this in frustration. In the end Google takes the hit because the information they show is now not reliable. They also take a hit financially because the boost ads are way cheaper to list with a broader range of keywords. Instead of paying thousands a month a boost ad can run on $50-$100 giving better visability than Adwords.

There are realistically 4 companies like this in New York. Hunk-o-mania, Hunkmania, Savage Men and American Male. All of the rest are 100% spam. Hunkmania and Hunk-o-mania are actually 2 different companies and here is a link to a page on the Hunkmania web site explaining.
http://www.hunkamania.com/?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_term=hunkamania&utm_campaign=TM_Names
Here is another link to a posting on the Google forums from both complaining about each others spam. This is probably a complete list of all spam URLS and sites from both companies because I know them both and know how detailed they can be.

I spoke with both Tommy from Hunkmania and Armondo from Hunk-o-mania about this spam issue and removing it. Tommy agreed to have only 1 listing if Armondo would do the same. Armondo gave the reponse as stated above. Savage Men's map location has been removed from Armondo's fake profiles both in New York and Atlantic City. All we would like is to have our 2 club lsitings reinstated and all the spam that he has removed. People should be able to choose where to go by viewing business information and not by overwhelming spam.

Please approve our listings Savage Men Male Strip Club 37 West 17th Street NY NY 10011. Our Atlantic City lisitng is Savage Men Male Strip Club 245 South New York Ave Atlantic City NJ 08401. We verified by mail and can produce bank statements that we are listed here.

I reviewed the listings and also found tons of Google accounts created just to make fake reviews on these lisitngs so they look valid to people searching for these sevices. These reviews are important because he links to all of his spam maps that have Spammed BOOST ADs.

1st user - 28 reviews - to Hunk-o-mania listings

http://maps.google.com/maps/user?uid=210697480131612196338&hl=en&gl=US&ved=0CFAQhQo&sa=X&ei=fWysTZ6CI6T6yAXQ8PmSBg

2nd user - 25 reviews - to hunk-o-mania listings

Interesting... I received the following from Tracy James today:

Hello my name is Tracy James and I am contacting you because you have selected to be part of Google Map

Maker. As you know Google has to select you in order for you to become part of their moderation team

and work your way up the ranks from there. Some of the key steps they look for in new potential

moderators is team work.

I am assembling a team at this time and had recieved your email as a potential candidtate from the map

maker staff. Every participant will have their email sent to the team at map maker for credit in the

group and projects we under take. I know that a lot of you are spread out all over the place but when

we come to gether as a unit and target an area the benefit would be tremendous.

I have collaborated with Map Maker on what could and what should be currently be completed.

This group will be given certain areas. Each area will need a certain amount of edits, reviews.

boundaries, roads, spam, closed places, and corrections. Please let me know which of these sections you

would prefer to work on so I can assemble the correct amount of people for each. This will not be labor

intensive and only may require a few hours of your time.

If you would like to be a part of this team simply reply back to this email. Keep the subject line.

Cheers

Tracy

Hello

Why would an email putting a mapping party together be considered spam or deceptive? I just went over the mapping party info in the help logs and they say this is how you should contact people. They even have a few more steps more intricate than this.

The user does not say they are Google, it clearly states that it is a map maker party. How is this suspicious? Did I really miss something?

Hey everyone,

Looks like there are at least several issues being discussed here, but I'd like to provide clarification on at least one of the issues:  mapping collaboration.

And with that said, let's try to keep public discussions focused on issues rather than people.  As noted in my post, if you have concerns about specific people or activities, please drop us a note at map...@google.com and we'll work things out from there.

Thanks, and take care...

Neo - On the surface the mapping group seemed like a good idea, but something didn't look right... Upon a bit of investigation it was discovered that the person sending the email had the same name as a person who was alleged to be involved in a spamming battle between a few businesses... maybe a coincidence, but better to be safe than to get in the middle of a mess.

Hey, yes that is a messy spam situation but that is another situation I have Harrahs International now dealing with. They are setting up their legal team to file a lawsuit in that matter. I am in production and produce a variety of shows, films and plays. I also own a few businesses and produce events for the 6 casinos that Harrahs owns in Atlantic City. All of this can be verified.

I had an intern turn me onto map maker. I poked around and found it to be interesting and cool. I am also a programmer and originally an electrical engineer by trade so I found the dynamics of the program intriguing. I know Atlantic City so I started trying to fix bad marked locations, buildings ect. There are a lot of errors. I noticed that a business inside of Ceasars Piers had hijacked the entire listing by changing the phone and web site. I notified the the main entertainment director for all of the properties and told them of what I found and that it might be happening to other locations they own.

They said they would look into it. A few days later I get a call from Chedder asking if I produce a show called Atlantic City Hunks and I tell her no. She said this group has a places map saying that they are at the Rainforest Cafe address at Ceasars Casino. She tried to get them removed and then told me she was instantly attacked by other profiles. I told her I would investigate this and this is when I found that this spam map was part of a whole list of spam maps that belonged to a single entertainment company. How did I find this out? I opened the listing and looked at the reviews which are all fake and then I clicked on that profile and found around 20 different similar reviews all for the same type of companies. It was a web of spam maps.
Check this out for yourself.

I own a club as well in Atlantic City that produces the a show that has a similar theme and thought that this type of spam was unethical so I called the owner. His mentality is that he will do whatever it takes to get the lions share of the business and will use all the loopholes and advantages he could find. I hung up the phone nauseated.

I went online and tried to flag as many of these listings as I could but found that the other owner had staff on map maker all day. He does this for other states and locations as well. Being a technical person I tried to figure out how to beat spam on the program side and came up with a solution which I posted in the forums under new features.

I am not here to spam maps or try any underhanded stuff. I use my real name on my profile! The Neo-2 is a nick name because I worked with Keanu Reeves on two of his movies. I have also worked with a number of charities donating time and money to helping others in need. You can find documented video of these works with me hosting a few of these in a video awareness series. I went to Africa for 3 weeks one instance with doctors and other aid workers to help bring medical supplies, clothing and other types of aid to the needy. I go on these missions 1-2 times a year. I am also working with the mayor of Atlantic City on the new Arts program to revitalize the community. This is taking place starting this year after Labor Day.

I took the initiative to invite others to a mapping event in Atlantic City and even got Showboat Casino to lend a conference room, I also invited others that could participate online and asked Lori from map maker to lend advice on how to setup the event. I hope this clears up your questions and look forward to continuing the evolution of mapping.

Neo-2 AKA Tracy James, AKA Dan Austin mapmaker "blissfulight" http://goo.gl/U4dtr and "Mxx" http://goo.gl/h8NT1 , "Steve S" http://goo.gl/tYy5M , "TJ" http://goo.gl/O2Xq2 , "Carmella" http://goo.gl/d03qV  Is the owner of a strip club spam empire and fake listings all over the place they call "Savagemania" http://goo.gl/7KZdx , Savage Men http://goo.gl/UL7z7 , etc...His real name is Tracy James and he's constantly attacking competition meanwhile he continues to use mapmaking resources for his own advantage! It's unbelievable what he's getting away with and Google needs to put an end to this once and for all!

A few months ago I reached out to him via email to try to get him to stop spam attacking my listings and other competitors listings on Google maps and places. He tried to get me to commit to some bullsh*t  agreement allowing Savage Men and Hunkomania to be able to have up to 3 to 4 listings for each city we operate in. If Dan Austin was really who he pretends to be he wouldn't care so much about Tracy and his interests! I've been watching his activity on MM for a long time now and, all he does is delete escort services and locksmiths and minimal micro edits to gain credibly, his edits are worthless and Google is also aware of his micro edits for the purpose of gaining power in Maps!! Come on man you know Dan Austin (blissfulight) and Tracy (Neo-2) is one of the same, you are both a sham and a fraud! Stop attacking your competitors now or else you're going to get banned for good and you'll loose all your power!! Furthermore, Tracy texted me a message the other day that confirms my suspicions all along which reads like this:  “You have finally realized that I am the trinity of GOD. I am mxx, blissfulight and ??? From now on refer to me as God, for this is what I have become. Your efforts are truly useless and will be eliminated. I grow stronger and more powerful while you become weak with kidney failure and a possessive overbearing bitch. You are now a laughing stock in the industry. It is like a flea attacking a lion”. Tracy James is a spammer and a fraud and Google is catching up to him…I've also emailed Google headquarters a copy of his text message on my iphone. Here is a list of his/your spam kingdom for you righteous Map Makers, none of these listings have a physical address with a storefront, therefore, they're all against Google guidelines:

Armando - None of those people are the same.  We know each other, participate in video conference calls with Google, and attend Map Maker conferences.  I've long heard about your conspiracy theories, but that is all they are.  Your competitor telling you that you are right is just him playing on your fears.

You are being removed simply because you are spamming the map.  That is what we do here, there's thousands of us editing the map to add detail and removed falsehoods.  If we were being vindictive, we would remove your true locations; but we don't because all we concentrate on is accurate information.  Your true locations will be edited to match reality and the map's guidelines; your fake locations will be deleted.  I have seen Dan do the same to your competitor.

PS. I'll go out of my way to delete your competitor's listings (after confirmation) when you supply me a list of all of your listings and admit which are fake and should be deleted.  You must also promise to never spam the map again.  Agreed?

I second Armando's petition,  Ban Dan Austin .

why in the earth he would spend all of his valuable time in the map maker . does he do anything for living  like us ?? truth is he is here because he can delete his competitors so his business will get more traffic/customers.

Of course he has no proof. It's just two spammers chatting back and forth trying to get rid of Dan. I'm about ready to mark their posts as spam and move on. I'm tired of it filling up my inbox.
