Hi. Desperate of York , UK here.
I am creating an online spreadsheet for a charity competition I'm running for Brain Tumour Research as we lost our daughter Rachael to a tumour.
I have zero knowledge of apps script as I'm sure this post will confirm
I wrote the spreadsheet in Excel and all has been ok.
Entry to the competition will be online so that anyone in the UK or world for that matter can enter
The main thing I wanted to do was create a script that when the entry form was completed it copied the contents to the database and cleared the form.
It works and I put it on a button in the relevant tab.
However when the file is put in Google drive and shared the button  doesn't work.
I googled this and I'm guessing the issue is I don't seem to have apps script in my browser and as a result in Google drive when I open Google sheets it isn't where everyone on Google says it will be.
I don't have extensions in the menu or Apps script in tools. When I look at the store to install extensions I cannot see that extension.
Any thoughts or help with this would be very much appreciated.

Alan

Share your sheet and we can take a look.

Alan,
Is there a reason you aren't using a Google form connected to the spreadsheet for your project?  This would eliminate a need to write any script nor problems where two people are in the same sheet form at the same time.

Hi

Thanks for getting back to me. I actually worked out what it was. I was trying to use an xlxs file on Google drive. Once I converted it to Google sheets it was OK (with a few tweaks)
However I was wondering if someone might be able to help with another (hopefully last)problem.
It's now working for laptop/PC and can view on tablet /phone. Not essential but would be nice if the buttons worked on a tablet. I have watched videos on this and did try once but its beyond my knowledge really. Any help with that would be much appreciated

Alan

Alan,
Macros by buttons do not work on tablets or phones.  There is a work around using onEdit() and drop downs but it is neither reliable or intuitive for the user.

Which brings me back to my original suggestion- use a Google form that you can make publicly available as a link on social media, email and on a website.  Google forms are easy and post all submissions directly to a spreadsheet for you - no code needed.

Hi Keith thanks for reply.

As you can tell I'm no expert.  Have not used Google forms.
Below is the link to what I have done. Would it be possible to have a quick look at the entry form tab and let me know if it's possible in Google forms
