Hi there,

I've implemented mediated banner ads with Admob and AOL (formerly Millennial Media) as the 2 ad sources.

Both ad sources display correctly, but after the first AOL ad is shown, the banners stop refreshing.
The refresh rate is set to 'optimized'.

So for example I can have:

AdMob banner
70 seconds
AdMob banner
70 seconds
AOL banner
<Never refreshes from here on>

This leads to a very low number of impressions, which the (admittedly) high eCPM does not may up for.

This has impacted our revenue to the point I've had to pause the AOL ad source.

Is this a known issue? Is there any work around?

The ad unit is:
Ad unit ID: ca-app-pub-4628249632882103/8426483278

I look forward to hearing from you,

Many thanks,

Steven Haggerty.

Hi Steven,

Can you confirm the SDK and Adapter version that you are using and send us Charles logs? I'm unable to reproduce the issue. Also send us device logs and can you confirm whether this is happening with our sample apps?

Hi there,

The reason you weren't able to reproduce it, is that I turned AOL mediation off in the Admob dashboard.
I've re-enabled it now, so you should be able to repro. You'll need to leave the banners until they
show an AOL ad. Then you'll get no further ads.

The play services version is 10.2.4
The AOL adapter is android-google-ad-mm-adapter-1.3.0-c8332522

Charles log attached.

As you can see from the debug log below, the admob ads work fine, scheduling a refresh every 70 seconds.
As soon as the AOL ad is displayed, no refresh is requested, so no further ads are shown.

See attached debug log.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Steve.

Hi Steve,

Thank you for all of the details. While I was unable to still load any ads from your Ad Unit ID, would it be possible for you to send us your sample app? The team, however, is looking into this and we will update you as soon as I have any more information.

I've found the problem. If the banner is set to use "Google optimized" for the banner refresh in the AdMob dashboard then the adverts stop refreshing.

If I select 'custom refresh rate' then everything works correctly.

It looks like "Google optimized" is broken for this use case and need fixing within the AdMob SDK.
