Hello,
I just started integrating Admob SDK with my app. I expected to see test ads but I am seeing live ads in ios simulator. I have SDK version 7.5 and I am on Xcode version 7.1. My target platform is ios 7 and up.
As per the documentation, SDK is supposed to show test ads in simulator without any additional steps. Am I missing something?

Thanks

Hi there,

Indeed the SDK is supposed to show test ads without having the user do any additional step.  I tested it out with our sample example, and I can confirm I saw test ads in the simulator (see attached screenshot).

Are you able to reproduce the issue in our sample app?  Could you send screenshots that show what you are seeing?

Thanks,

Thanks for you reply. I am getting test ads correctly with sample app (even if I change the ad unit id to my own). But with my app I am still getting live ads on simulator. Please see the attached screenshot.

Hello,

When you say you are getting live ads in your app on the simulator, are you using a live ad unit ID?  If so, then the simulator factor will be ignored, and you will be served live ads, which is what you are seeing.  If you would like to see test ads, then add your test device ID to the ad request.

Cheers,

Hello,
 Thanks for your reply.
I am not sure about what you mean by live ad unit id. I created this recently for iOS version of the app which is not yet published. There does not seem to be any option in admob console to mark an ad unit id as 'test' or 'live'.
I can add a test device in code but how do I do that for simulator?

Thanks

Hi there,

Generally, all ad unit IDs you create are live.  They will be showing a different UI interface compared to the test ad we display in our sample apps.  So, if you run the app in the simulator, and are using a live ad unit ID (but without a test device ID), then you will be seeing live ads.  The simulator will not be a factor.

Technically a simulator counts as a test device, so you cannot add a test device for it.  To see test ads on the simulator, simply reuse the test ad unit ID we supply in our sample code.
