Hello,

I'm trying to render a motion vector aov with arnold but my render is black.

Here is how I setup it :
I have enabled motion blur in the standard attribute
camera - on
transformation - on
deformation - on

I also have disabled sample motion to don't see the motion blur in my render.

I have created a custom aov named motionvector
type - exr
data - color motionvector
my render is black

I also have tested with a aiMotionVector node connected to an AOVshader
But also with no luck...

Am I missing something ?

Thx,

Seb

If I remember correctly, you need to have the motion blur switched on, and then set the shutter time to be instantaneous (to avoid rendering motion blur)

Hello.

Motion blur is enabled and I have disabled sample motion.

If I'm not wrong, instantaneous option is not present in gaffer

it seems like you have it correct for the mblur settings, I have a feeling the aov setting may be the cause, maybe try  rgb motionvector in the aov data string

Hi Seb,
It turns out that Arnold changed behaviour since we first added the `sampleMotion` option, and there's now a better way of implementing it (and the old way no longer works). I've opened a PR with the relevant fixes, and added a preset on the Outputs node to remove the rest of the guesswork. You should be able to download a build to test with once the CI has completed :

Cheers...

Hello John,

I'm wondering if we will have trouble if we install the latest gaffer release. On our project we are still using gaffer 0.59.0.0
Do you know if there are some gaffer updates who can break our scripts ?
In our scripts we are using ABC / USD caches, Gaffer instancer, switch names, context variables plus lots of other custom pipeline nodes.

Thx,

Seb

Hi Seb,
Our intention is always that there are no breaking changes in a particular major version, so 0.59.x.x should be compatible with 0.59.0.0. For full disclosure though, I was recently alerted to a subtle change of behaviour affecting TaskNodes with string inputs from expressions that read `context.getFrame()` but don't use it to generate the string. This was a rare case and  was worked around relatively easily in practice, so I don't think we will revert the behaviour. I think it is fairly unlikely that this would affect you, but please do let me know if you see anything suspicious...
Cheers...
John
