Eclipse Kepler. java version "1.7.0_45"

Earlier, I installed Felix directly - after printing "Hello World" it printed out  hundreds of lines of errors.

felix-eclipse sounds tempting, but I have to get started.

OSGi In Action book describes OSGi nicely, but I'm quite confused as to how to actually get any code written and running.

For implementation, everything I've looked at has a steep learning curve, or just no path at all from beginning to working code.

All I can do is to work the mailing lists, explaining as clearly as I can what I've tried and what the results are.

I had tried JPF, but it's not documented of supported.  Nice demo though.

Plug-ins are certainly a great design framework. So I'm hoping.

Not sure how I can be of any assistance - which version of felix-eclipse did you install? What kind of errors did you experience?

The list of errors was so long that it overflowed my terminal - I'll need to increase my scrollback to see.

At the moment, I'm just using the Felix examples in command line Felix,

felix-framework-4.2.1 and java -jar bin/felix.jar

but I am mixing CLI and Eclipse.  For the last day or two when I install and start Felix's example1, it can't find the Activator class in the jar.

So now I have two approaches that aren't working for me. ;-(

I've been doing code development for decades - frustrating now.

I just installed Karaf EIK.
Now Eclipse crashes on start.
Plugin collision?
How do I remove felix-eclipse?

That was a dumb question I asked.
Only avenue open now - reinstall Eclipse.
Maybe remove felix-eclipse from somewhere before I do?

On the Karaf user list, I found zero mentions of Eclipse crashes, so I think EIK is not the problem.

You can remove felix-ecipse by going to the About page, and then clicking on something like Installed Features. This has a list of user installed plugins which can be removed.

Sorry to hear you had so much trouble with felix-eclipse.

Hi Bob

If you've been specifically having trouble starting or using felix, the best place to ask questions is the felix-users mailing list (us...@felix.apache.org). It is unusual that the plugin does show up a "Apache Felix" target for you to debug with.

You should see a "Apache Felix" entry in the Preferences->Plug-in Development->OSGi Frameworks list if the plugin is installed correctly. After that, make sure you have defined a target platform (essentially a list of compiled bundles) that contains the org.apache.felix.main bundle and org.apache.felix.shell and a org.apache.felix.shell.tui bundle.

When you go to run your application, you create a "OSGi Framework" run configuration and select the "Apache Felix" option in the Framework drop-down.

Also, I forgot to mention that there are setup and usage instructions here: http://code.google.com/p/felix-eclipse/wiki/Information

If it can't find your activator, make sure it is defined correctly in MANIFEST.MF too.

Hope this helps.

Chris
