Our company is putting in a Linux system to run a business critical application.  I have two questions...

One, are there any recommended IT professional services in the Eugene area that build Linux servers (or where would you recommend purchasing one. The server requirements are very basic nothing fancy.)?

Two, I have had experience with Linux, but it would be nice to be able to have someone to assist with support when an issue on the server is beyond me or checking the health of the system. Are there any IT professional services in the Eugene area that support Linux servers?

Thanks in advance,
Tim

What is the use case?  Is there a specific need for setting up a physical server rather than using a virtualized solution?  I'm not aware of any local companies which specialize in Linux servers (that is not to say that there are surely none), but there quite a few of us who might be able to help out.

Shameless plug. ComputerBase. True server grade hardware or glorified desktop. Hardware RAID options. SSD options. Distro options. Bob is a SUSE enterprise fan but you can pick any distro you like if you're going to maintain it yourself. 541-349-0404 - 49 Silver Lane, 97404. River Rd and Beltline.

Ah, I didn't realize Computer Base would support a Linux distro.  Go this route if you need a box.

The reason for a physical box is the developers of the application says they have tested it on a virtual system and it takes a lot of resources to run the application (I have no idea why that is, I just know the application doesn't perform well virtually unless your are ready to pay a lot in hardware and dedicate a lot of resources to the VM it resides on).  The developers recommend a cheaper route is a physical box.  The application runs well on physical box with no problems and since the company I work for is budget concience we are going to go the physical route.  We talked to another company (a well known company) that uses the same application and they told us they had to spend $15K on hardware to get the application to run well virtually.

Hi Tim,
I offer linux support, building severs, workstations, and helping
users do all the things that they need to do.
My website is:
RockSolidNetworks.Net, Im moving the site soon, and I will update
things probably next month, as Im very busy this month doing IT stuff
for the Oregon Country Fair, but next month I will have more time for
new things, if you still need help.

I am not trying to compete with the rest of the world with the lowest
prices, and promises of great success, but for a fair price, I will do
my best to to make you happy.

My focus is on stability, and reliability, but not so much on features
and fancy stuff. You can feel free to message me, and Ill do my best
to answer questions, but I wont be able to really dig into it this
month.
