Hi,
Is RFD 900 Modem (http://store.rfdesign.com.au/rfd-900-modem/) is supported by DroidPlanner?

Regards,
Alex

Yes, but you will have to find some way to power it as it requires more current than the USB port on a tablet can provide.

Just to complement Craig reply:
You will also need a way to connect the RFD900 to the tablet. You can use either a FTDI cable, or a Bluetooth or Wifi bridge.

Craig Elder, Arthur Benemann, ultrojo2 - thank for your replies!

Could you attach photos of RFD 900 connected to tablet and to external power supply?

Also, where can I buy above-mentioned power supply for RFD 900?

I don’t have a photo of what you ask, but a guess, let’s call this Option 1) would be using

NOTE: If it’s the RFD900u you will need a connector for the DF13, 8pin connector on it.

Option 2: (guessing) is you could use this to connect using a USB Micro OTG cable (the same OTG cable supplied with Iris by 3DR, micro usb to micro usb) https://www.sparkfun.com/products/11736

The biggest question/concern of directly connecting the RFD900 is it using ~800mA in current. USB2.0 is 500mA. I’m not sure how much the OTG connection from your tablet can supply. You may need to ’self power' the RFD900 from another regulated power source.

Option 3) is to create a WiFi or Bluetooth to RF900 'radio bridge’.

The advantage of a ‘bridge’ is that you’ll need a separate power source to power it, but that can have enough power to source the 800mA for the transmit power. You can put the Antenna up in the air away from other equipment of interference, and your tablet batteries lifetime won’t be as dramatically impacted as when it’s plugged in.

There is a company called Event38 who make a Bluetooth Bridge to 900Mhz radio. http://www.event38.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=BTB

An example of a WiFi to 915Mhz radio bridge can be found here with pictures. (This is what I personally use with MAVPilot and DroidPlanner ;) )

Hope that helps :)

Bill

Bill, this is great! I am going to go with Option 3. Thanks for the info and links :-)
