PTT

I have been using a SignaLink for many years.  Today I took it out and set up the connections to the radio directly.  FreeDV will not PTT.  Other apps such as WSJT-X and VarAC work fine when selecting CAT control for PTT.

What is the secret sauce to get PTT working?

I did not realize that hamlib was built in to FreeDV.  I thought I had to install and configure it separately. 

So I selected hamlib and set up the PTT and now it puts the TS-590s into TX mode.

but... no TX audio.  Menu 63 is set to USB and WSJT-X and VarAC work fine with the "no SignaLink" configuration.

Any ideas for the no audio on TX issue?

Any difference if you go to Tools->Options->Rig Control and select "Use USB/LSB instead of DIGU/DIGL"?

Mooneer,

It did occur to me to try the USB/LSB instead of DIGU/DIGL but the behavior did not change.

Still no rear audio, tx audio was coming from the front hand mic.

Hi Dudley,

Always good to check the signal from here to there.

But, yes, the signal does show up on the USB sound device meter in Windows.

And this sound device is working fine for WSJT-X and VarAC.

But when FreeDV PTT is selected, the TS-590s does indeed go into the TX mode, but the audio from the front hand mic is routed to the transmitter instead of the audio from the USB sound device.

With Mooneer's help we looked at a verbose log of my FreeDV session during the PTT press.  It appears to be sending TX and not TX1 (which Kenwood says is needed to select rear (ACC2 or USB) audio.

And yes, I have selected Kenwood TS-590s Menu 63 to USB.

So if you have further thoughts I'd love to know.

We suspect that hamlib is not sending the correct CAT string to the radio....
