As I just mentioned in the community call, the developers of a new Dataverse plugin for OPS/OJS 3 are looking for feedback.

Thank you Kaitlin for pointing out that in the announcement they point out OPS specifically. It seems like the intention is for this code to work with OJS as well at some point.

Here's the post* where the developers are asking all sorts of questions about how the plugin should work: https://forum.pkp.sfu.ca/t/feedback-needed-dataverse-plugin-for-ops-ojs-3/72676

Please let them know what you think!

Thanks,

Phil

Please check this out, OJS 3 users:

"We should release a new version for OPS in the next few days, and then it will be possible to work on the version for OJS.

Today, the development of this plugin is financed by Scielo Brasil https://www.scielo.br/set_locale/en/ .

We should have the first version for OJS 3 in early 2023. Any support is welcome (e.g. testing, code collaboration, funding)!" -- https://github.com/pkp/pkp-lib/issues/1822#issuecomment-1337487167

I just noticed a comment* by Kaitlin Newson that suggests that integration with Dataverse and OJS 3 is now supported. Is that right? Has anyone tested it? If it works, we should update our guides! Here's what it says now: https://guides.dataverse.org/en/6.6/admin/integrations.html#open-journal-systems-ojs

Thanks!

Phil

Hi Philip!

I've just answered that issue. The plugin now works for the two versions of OJS/OPS* supported by PKP: 3.3 and 3.4.

We have Scielo Preprints (OPS) as the main user - Scielo is the one who funded the development of this plugin for OJS 3.x and has provided us with fundamental guidance and feedback - and we have supported some Brazilian journals, which in general are in the initial phase of receiving research data, or are still adapting to receive research data.

We are uploading the plugin to the gallery to facilitate its installation and dissemination. We are keeping the installation and configuration instructions up to date at https://github.com/lepidus/dataversePlugin.

We expect its use to grow significantly in the coming months.

*We haven't yet received feedback from OPS 3.4 users.

Thanks,
Diego

Diego, that's fantastic news! If I'm understanding correctly, OJS 3 (3.3 and up, specifically) is now supported as an integration with Dataverse!

Please (all of you), feel free to add reviews or comments to that PR in case I got something wrong. Diego, we can also give credit to Lepidus if you want.

Thanks!

Phil

Great Phil!

The plugin is available for these, which are the two versions of OJS supported by PKP. Previous versions of OJS are no longer maintained and contain known security vulnerabilities.

thanks,
Diego
