Received my clusterhat v2 today. Loaded the rpiboot image on my pi3. Power light is on and a faded alert led. Clusterhat on does nothing. No p1-4 led goes on. What could be wrong? Defective clusterhat or pi3?

The beta rpiboot image doesn't support the Cluster HAT 2 (I'm working on a new version that will). 

I haven't tried but I think you should be able to get it working by running these commands on the controller.

# Enable I2C with raspi-config ( 5 Interfacing Options -> P5 I2C -> Yes )

sudo raspi-config

# Update the tool

sudo wget -O /usr/share/clusterhat/python/xra1200.py \

 https://raw.githubusercontent.com/burtyb/clusterhat-image/master/files/usr/share/clusterhat/python/xra1200.py

sudo wget -O /sbin/clusterhat \

If that doesn't work let me know and I'll give it a try here.

It does light the p1-4 leds but i dont get the interfaces in ifconfig?

Waiting die bcm2835/6/7 i get in a screen session.

Can you see the 4 port hub with "lsusb -t" ?

If not check the USB cable and try a "clusterhat off;clusterhat hub off;sleep 2;clusterhat hub on" and see if that brings it back to life and if so power on the Pi Zeros again.

I'm writing the rpiboot image atm so I should be able to take a quick look in a few.

Hi,

Well it finds the hub which is a good start, you might want to update the rpiboot tool too.

These are the commands I ran to get it updated to support v2 and it's now working OK here.

# Enable I2C with raspi-config ( 5 Interfacing Options -> P5 I2C -> Yes )
sudo raspi-config

# Update the tool

sudo mkdir -p /usr/share/clusterhat/python/

sudo wget -O /usr/share/clusterhat/python/xra1200.py \

If after updating the tool + rebooting you're still not seeing them start up properly, what does the output of "dmesg" look like?

wit screen you can check what the zero is doing when you enter clusterhat on :

sudo screen -rx rpiboot

If the blue LED is on dim then the cluster hat hasn't been initialised.

It you run "clusterhat init" does the blue light go out, do you get an error, or something else?

From the dmesg output it looks like it's finding the USB hub on the Cluster HAT but none of the Pi Zero and since "init" hasn't been ran it looks like you haven't ran "clusterhat on" as this would also init the HAT if it hasn't already been done.

After running "clusterhat on" do you see any errors?

Yes, I've run clusterhat on, per instructions from:

Interestingly clusterhat on produces the 4 turning on P1-P4 messages, but clusterhat init (as well as "clusterhat alert on", "clusterhat hub on", for example) just says error: unknown mode.

I've used the non-sd image. Assembly was by the book. All parts are new...

Really stumped? :0$

Hi,

Which means you're still using the old "clusterhat" tool for Cluster HAT v1 and haven't upgraded.

Run through the steps on https://groups.google.com/forum/#!msg/clusterhat/fp3shqpwNA0/tFKUKFUUBAAJ and that should get the tool updated to work with v2.

Following on from the conversation on https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/clusterhat/fp3shqpwNA0

If when you run "clusterhat on" it says it's turning on P1-P4 then you're running the old tool also if "clusterhat init" says unknown mode you're running the old tool which is why I'm thinking you may have missed a step or there was an error.

I wasn't sure where to post this & whether it's right to resurrect the old thread - but I got my clusterhat v2 not long ago and have only recently tried to use it.

I'm using:
- http://dist.8086.net/clusterhat/ClusterHAT-2017-11-29-lite-2-usbboot.zip
- pi2b
- have only loaded pi-zero's into slots 1-3 of the clusterhat,

clusterhat on seems to work - and I can individiually turn on the orange LED's for p1-3 (or all four slots for that matter), however:

It's normally best to start a new thread as there are many variables to setups.

clusterhat on seems to work - and I can individiually turn on the orange LED's for p1-3 (or all four slots for that matter), however:

Firstly check the USB cable between the Cluster HAT and Controller is OK and/or try with another cable.

Are you using a Cluster HAT v2.2? If so then try "clusterhat hub off" which should turn *ON* the USB hub for that version with the old "clusterhat" tool (the logic switched between v2.0 and v2.1).

If after running the above command "lsusb -t" shows the Cluster HAT 4 port USB hub "...Driver=hub/4p" then you can update the tool using the commands below and it should work as you'd expect after a reboot.

sudo wget -O /usr/share/clusterhat/python/xra1200.py https://raw.githubusercontent.com/burtyb/clusterhat-image/master/files/usr/share/clusterhat/python/xra1200.py
