What does डम्भ  mean?

The context is the 3 nAma-s in shrii subrahmaNya aShTottara shatanAmAvali :

Thanks and regards

The shared file gives Dambha = wielder of Indra's vajra

But the word has several usages with the meaning outer look being different from inner reality

dambhaachaarah in Bh G

daambhika = pompous

mystic , hidden, not understood on face value etc. match with the famous name Guha of Subrahmanya

For another novel interpretation, one can use the popular rule डलयोरभेदः and interpret परमडम्भः etc. as परमलम्भः। Meaning of लम्भः is given in Apte's dictionary and other koshas.

To my knowledge :"Dambha" also means "pride" or  "high-self-esteem"..

Dear Sir,

ḍambha is a loanword, and hence apparently, of the avyutpanna category. PIE had no retroflex. Burrow (95ff) extensively deals with the retroflexes under the heading ‘THE CEREBRALS’. They are original to the Dravidic languages. Both OIA and Austric developed them under Dravidic influence.

I've also seen a usage of this word in a stotram about devI, hRdayAmRtam, which was authored by jagannAtha/umAnandanAtha(a disciple of bhAskararAya/bhAsurAnandanAtha).
It was as -

One must recognise that the used word is डम्भ, not दम्भ.
So, looking at dictionary and suggesting the meaning of दम्भ here as meaning of डम्भ is wrong, unless we have proof from lexicon.

कचशोभाजितकालमेघडम्भे and तुलितबिम्बडम्भे रुचा , these usages of the word डम्भ in the compound hint that it may mean pride(which makes it equivalent of दम्भ).

However, unless I see some proof from older commentaries, I'll treat it as a good guess work.

In this BG verse:

The word दम्भः is used by most ancient commentaries. However, in this case the word is डम्भः -

Brahmasutra anuvyākhyāna of Madhva:

In the Mahabharata too this word seems to be used:

In the Śanaiścara sahasranāma:

In the Subrahmanya sahasranāma:

It looks like this type of stuti is common for  devatā-s and is a bhūṣaṇam rather than a defect in their case:

Thanks to all scholars who provided very useful leads to my question.

warm regards
