Dear All,

I am looking for Bodayana Yajur Upakarma source in Devanagari with Svaras notation included if possible.

fyi: Yajur upakarma is uniform across Apastambha (90%), Ashvalayana and Bodayana with certain rituals like Samithadhana, Brahma Yajna and Kanda Rshi tarpana varying significantly. I have tried through all personal sources with ho luck.

I am hoping some one can help me in this group.

Appreciate any help or pointers I can get in this regard,

Many thanks,

Venkat

A small book Yajurveda Sandhyavandanam sold by Giri trading targetting new intiate brahmachari vaTus has both Apasthambha and Bodhayana nityakarma procedures with mantra in Devanagari and svara including upakarma, as far as I remember. I'd have confirmed the same, except that I have packed all my books to shift from here and I can't find it in the open boxes. If you have access to Giri trading, I suggest you buy it.

Namaste Shri Praveenji:

Thank you so much for replying back to my post.
Is this the "Yajurveda trikala sandhyavandhanam " by  Parthasarathy I just got off the phone with Giri Traders Nanganallur and the gentleman there told me that there is no Kanda Rshi Tarpanam in that book.
Is this the Sanskrit and English version? It seems to have Sandhyavandana, samithadhanam and Brahm Yajnam though.

Thanks also to Dr.Korada Subrahmanyam Garu for his guidance regarding Brahma Yajna. He was kind enough to enlighten me that many mantras were added by successive generations.

Kind Regards,

Venkat

Yes, its the same Sanskrit-English book.

I just got off the phone with Giri Traders Nanganallur and the gentleman there told me that there is no Kanda Rshi Tarpanam in that book.

You could add that as a supplement when you find it elsewhere. It contains most common procedures, though missing some that specific traditions that follow. For example, although Havyaka and Kota brahmins follow Bodhayana, there are some Havyaka/ Kota specific mantras, nyAsas, dhyAnas missing in the book.

Dear Praveen ji,

Is the Kanda Rshi tarpana common across all Yajur Vedins or does it change across Aapastambha and Bodhayana?

Thanks

Namaste Venkatji,

Apologies, I am not qualified to answer that question. Others here may be able to answer.

Kanda Rshi Tarpanam is performed by Apastambins and Baudhayanas.

It is not common. There are slight variations between those of Apastambins and Baudhayanas.

Namaste,

There is a book called Bodhayana Brahmakarma  in devanagari which can be downloaded from archive. This book details the entire Upakarma/Utsarjana vidhi along with the elaborated tarpana vidhanam.
Please refer from 116 page onwards (438 page in the pdf) in the document.

Dear Sundareswaran ji,

Thank you for this information.

Is there any chance you may have a Sanskrit version of Kanda Rshi Tarpana for Yajurvedi Bodhayanas?

Thanks,

Venkat

The upAkarma procedure for the bodhAyana, at least as per that book, is quite different from the aapastamba procedure. The order of upAkarma homa in the aapatamba is prajaapatim, somam, agnim, vishvaan-devaan, saa.mhitiibhyo devataabhya upaniShadbhya.h, yaaj~nikiibhyo devataabhya upaniShadbhya.h, vaaruuNiibhyo devataabhya upaniShadbhya.h, brahmaNe svayambhuve and finally using the Rk sadaspatimadbhutam for sadasaspati. The Bodhayana procedure is more complicated, uses a different order, and it seems the upaviitam is also nivItI etc for certain homas. This is done only when doing tarpaNam, not for the upAkarma homam in aapastamba. Furthermore, the changing of the thread happens during the homam here, whereas for aapastambins, it's a separate procedure before the homa. There are many interesting differences here.

Thanks for the link Shri Ramachandra.
