Hi Andreas,

I noticed your Evernote plugin on github - https://github.com/ndreas/Evernote-qsplugin. I've downloaded, compiled and installed it, but haven't figured out how to use it yet. Any hints?

Thanks,
dave

I think this plugin is still under development. Hopefully Andreas will chime in to let you know more :)

It's under development right now, Patrick is correct. I have had a busy autumn at work and am currently moving to a new apartment so I haven't had time to do any development recently.

Unless someone wants to take up the project, it's unfortunately going to be a while until I can get around to continue the development. Now that I know there's some interest, I'll try to squeeze in a coding spree as soon as I can, though, hopefully after Christmas.

Cool, just knowing you are going to work on one eventually encourages me to try out Evernote. I know there is good interest in the Evernote forums as well.

Does it do anything yet that I can test out for you :)?

No it doesn't really do anything but adding notebooks as right arrow children to Evernote. The next step will probably be to add actions to notebooks, allowing you to open/show, search and other stuff I haven't thought of yet.

I'm really glad that there are people interested in this. Let me know if you have anything special you'd like to see implemented and I'll try to look at it.

One thing I should say is that in the foreseeable future the plugin will require Evernote to be running in order to use it. I briefly looked at using Evernote's raw data but that seemed too much of a hassle. I might build something that uses Evernote's API in the future, though, but first I'd like to get some functionality for the running app.

Cool! I see that now. I was looking for items in the global catalog.

In terms of ideas, I'm happy to share ideas :). I would say shelf and
voodoopad would probably be good to look at. My thoughts are the
following:

Notebook, Tag, and Note items
Note items have actions like Shelf/text items
Catalogs for Notebooks and Tags containing "Note" text items
Create/append note action for Notebooks and Tags
Open action for Notebook, Tag, and Note items

Of course, whatever works best for you should be at the top of the list
:).

I see I'm resurrecting a rather old thread here, but I just want to voice my wholehearted interest in this project.  Andreas, I'd LOVE to see all of your plans for this come to fruition!  Please, when you have time, continue to develop this!  We seriously need a happy Evernote-QS marriage.

There is a somewhat usable debug build of the Evernote plugin here: http://cl.ly/0S2a0i3s1t1Z You can try that until I have something that me and the QS devs think is useful. I'll try to find some time and inspiration soon to continue to develop it. It's nice to hear there is someone who is interested in the plugin.

wow - yeah, I just got interested in getting to my frequently used notes… faster! I've been using quicksilver and evernote both for years and so i'm surprised i've put up with just plodding along. I do see this guide, but i'm going about it differently - i'm dragging that evernote://view… url into an indexed folder and renaming it so it shows as I want in my quicksilver searching… no new keyboard triggers for me here, thanks

looks like this plugging (btw, thank you for your time spend in this!) might prompt me to use notebooks more - or be clearer about how i use them - or use them less - so everything's in the same place! we'll see… ;)

I’m sure that’s up to date, but the same information is bundled with the plug-in itself. Go to Preferences → Plugins, select the Evernote plug-in, and click the `?`.

The "search for..." action doesn't work for me. I have tried to get a
notebook in the first pane, "search for ..." in 2nd pane, and a text
to search for in the 3rd, but it never gets anything.

Is there a trick I am missing.

There should be no trick. You should be able to have a notebook in the first pane, select the action "Search notebook for..." in the second, enter text in the third, and then Evernote should receive focus with a search for the text. This works for me.

The search is activated in the frontmost Evernote window. If this is on another desktop, make sure that you switch to the desktop containing the Evernote window, or enable the automatic desktop switching in Mission Control.

I just noticed there's a bug when all Evernote windows are closed and you try to use the reveal or search actions. I'll fix that tomorrow and submit an updated version to QS.

For some reason, using > or / having got Evernote in the first pane did nothing for me.  I then got Evernote.app in the first pane, tabbed to the second pane, typed 'Search', tabbed to the third pane, typed 'tim' and hit the <enter> key.  Evernote opened my 'tim' notebook.

Since that time, I can type 'evernote' in the first pane (or an abbreviation of it, obviously) and then either > or / and a list of all my Evernote notebooks appear in the list with the reveal action in the second pane.

By the way - big thanks Andreas - very useful plugin.  You da man!

Was Evernote started the first time? If Evernote hasn't been started, or there are no notebooks or tags indexed in your catalog, Evernote won't have any children.

No, Evernote wasn't started - only had its icon in the menu bar.  So... that'll be why then - thanks.  I've quit Evernote now - still got its icon in the menu bar - and QS doesn't show any of my notebooks.  Is there a way to get QS to permanently catalog my notebooks and tags?

Under QS preferences -> Catalog -> Plugins you can add notebooks, notes and tags to the catalog. If those are added, you'll be able to both search for notebooks, notes and tags in QS, and they'll be available as children under Evernote. I don't recommend you include the notes in the catalog, since QS might become slow if you have a lot of notes.

Sure - I've got Notebooks and Tags both checked but still need Evernote.app to be launched for the children to show.  I presume there's no way to do that without Evernote having been launched first, Andeas?

Ah, the notebooks and tags haven't been indexed yet. Start Evernote, and click the refresh arrow on the bottom right of the preferences window. Then you should have something that looks like this:

Infogad bild 1

Notice the number 15, that means that QS has 15 notebooks indexed. In your case, you don't have anything indexed.

It's on my roadmap for 1.1 to automatically index Evernote when it starts.

Andreas,

Is it possible to add choosing notes from specified notebook(s) to be
catalogued? This way we can specify the important notebook(s) that
contain a small set of notes immediately available via QS.

what's the easiest way of actually getting this thing installed? right now I've got version 1.0.0 from 5/16/13 & I don't quite recall how I got it, nor is it offering an upgrade. I don't know how to compile things from GitHub, nor do I believe I have to time to learn. Will this plug-in eventually be one that's listed automatically through the program?

It sounds like you may have installed an early preview build. If it has the same build number as the current release, you won’t see it as an update.

In any case, select it in the Plugins preferences and choose “Delete Selected Plugins” from the gear menu at the bottom. After the relaunch, just check the box to install it again. The current release will get downloaded.

Hi Andreas
I've got the april 2014 Evernote plugin, but have no idea how to use it in QS. If I type Evernote in the opening QS pane, it tells me to open the app. If I type in words, then toggle to secondary pane, there is no "open Evernote note/notebook/etc" option.

What exactly – and how exactly – can I use the Evernote QS plugin? Love 'em both. Imagine your solution is cool. Want to use it.

The built-in documentation explains it pretty well. (We’ve been pretty
good the past couple of years about making sure all released plug-ins
include documentation.)

Go to Preferences → Plug-ins and select Evernote, then click the
‘?’ button in the bottom-right corner.
