Hi all,

Just wanted to hopefully help anyone who is having a very slow and unresponsive Quicksilver experience: if you have Karabiner Elements installed, try uninstalling it and restarting.

I was getting very frustrated with Quicksilver being slow and extremely unresponsive, including sometimes missing keystrokes right after I would hit the trigger hotkey if i didn't wait for the QS interface to pop up (which was taking a long time). After some troubleshooting I discovered that the culprit was Karabiner Elements (an open source keyboard customization app) that I had running to customize the F-keys on my 2014 MacBook Pro. After uninstalling Karabiner and rebooting (Warning: after uninstallation my built-in keyboard stopped working entirely until I rebooted), QS was back to its zippy, reliable self that I remember fondly, and have sworn by since I started using it on a Powerbook G4 back in 2005. Yay!

My system: MacBookPro11,3 (2014, 15"), macOS 10.13.6, Quicksilver 1.6.0, Karabiner-Elements 12.1.0

But I'm guessing it would be the case on other configurations also, because I have been experiencing it for a while, slowly getting worse.

best,
Arvid

Without dismissing your experience, I just wanted to add the datapoint that I have both installed but haven’t seen slowness issues with QS.  I depend heavily on KE to remap Esc to Caps Lock tap and Ctrl to Caps Lock hold now that I have a Touch Bar MBP and am running Mojave.

I also have Hammerspoon installed to support Vi bindings since KE no longer does this.

Glad to know it can be done! Perhaps something was messed up about the Karabiner config, or I was using a strange setting for the keyboard capture. Maybe I’ll try it again at some point with a fresh Karabiner install.

Just another "me too" on things working fine for me. I've all three
(KE, Hammerspoon, and Quicksilver) as well, so far working well. I've
mostly partitioned their responsibilities, KE for keyboard remapping,
HS for using those remapped keys (esp. use left-ctrl as a composite
key for ctrl-alt-cmd), and QS for other stuff.

Aside: KE Vi bindings is fixed, and is faster than the Hammerspoon workaround. https://pqrs.org/osx/karabiner/complex_modifications/#vi_mode looks like it'll work, though my fixed Vi bindings is customised.
