setting default fee per kb on the fly

Is there a good way to set the default fee per kb on the fly for a currently running Wallet? The only way I've found to do it involves creating a new Context and passing the fee as a parameter.

The parameter in the Context *is* the default fee for SendRequest. In
SendRequest, you can adjust the fee per request.
