Very shameful, but not shocking any more. Incidents like this are a daily affair in this country. Every morning at least a few like this in the morning papers.

If I were a westerner, I would leave India out of any cycling itinerary.

Am hoping that Indians are safer, especially in south India.

Wifey and me are planning to do some cycling in Coorg this month end.

Planning not to venture in the dark and keep pepper spray at hand. Any other precautions to take?

Not a single day passes when such a shameful incident doesn't happen...right now today's TOI (website) is showing four such incidents - of rapes, of escapes from rapes, of death of a girl who was molested earlier - and then this news.

As a nation we're a colossal failure on women's security. Shame.

And when, a year ago, I had posted about how f****ed up this country is for women, I was accused by many of exaggerating  and had people turning around and saying "this happens all over the world, not only in India".

Yup, rape happens all over, just that we can claim to be the world leaders.

The incident is all the worse because when we cycle in Europe, personal safety is sort of taken for granted. I feel really bad about the incident, as well as the further beating our reputation gets on the world stage.

Colossal failure on a lot more things..

"ranking 65 in the 79 hungriest nations in the Global Hunger Index (GHI)"

Thanks to the above, the rest of us who have no clue of what Hunger is
can live like this... if the rest of India starts eating healthy, the
Demand pressure would rise inflation to dangerously high levels.

"Human Development Index, though, is 136 out of 186 nations"
There are states in India who have EU level HDI, but their patterns
won't be duplicated.

To change the system we will need to stand up and confront the system,
which we will not
