Please look just above the "DRaC" water mark for the parents of both the bride and groom.

It appears the grooms father is Manuel de Freitas but cant determine the grooms mothers name ... "something" Santo de Jesus?

Any help would be appreciated!

I see it now. I wanted to make the first letter a "D" and it kinda looked like "Deo" but Deolinda wasn't fitting with the rest of the word.

If you read all the posts where people ask for translation help, whether it's your island & freguesia or not, you will develop more of a sense for things.

I was stuck on yours being a "D" when it was a "V." After Margaret pointed out Violante, I went back and looked at it. So next time I'll know what that V looks like.

Louie, that's another reason to get the Basic Portuguese Paleography booklet I talked about in class on Saturday. Some of those capital letters are so different than what we see today you wouldn't recognize them!

I actually opened it up and tried comparing the letters and still couldn't get "Violante" as I have never ever seen the name before.

Vio....He wrote the V with it falling over the right. So the V is basically sideways.
lantade....He ran the 2nd syllable of the name together with the word "de" and did not pick up his pen. lanta de
So it looks like Dio lantade  instead of Violanta de.
