Hi Cheri;  Just wanted to say that I am seldom able to find the connection on dna matches and have been very frustrated by that fact.  I so far, went to one of the profiles I manage on FTDNA and put Azores in the surname field and my islands in the location field.  Presto, I found a match and was able to locate our connection!  Pretty exciting

Thanks for the tip!

I signed into my FTDNA account and added Azores and Sao Jorge to see who I might find. It was interesting that I only had a total of 5 matches show up.

With that being said does the program recognize a difference between Azores and Acores? I know I have many more matches that extend to the islands.
I have not gone back it yet and just put Azores. I am guessing that will make a big difference

No, you have to type in Azores and Acores. A "z" is a different letter than a "c" in their computer programming world. Cheri

Cheri,
A sister recently received Family finder kit and has got questions. Our results differ some and I'm doing my best to explain. Hope you can help. Can she be added to this group?
Thanks!

Hi, Not sure what you mean by "this" group - The Google Group or the Azores DNA Project. The Google Group is open to the public and anyone can join. The Azores DNA Project currently requires a "Join Request." She can just say she's your sister ("momma Goodwin") when it asks why she's joining the Azores DNA Project. She has no real tree beyond your dad, so the admins will need to view your tree to qualify her.

She needs to be a member of the Azores DNA Project. I can't discuss results of non-participants. I can only do vague, general discussions. So be sure she joins both.

Ok. I meant the Azores DNA project. Can you explain how she would go about it? Just add azores in the ftdna account? sorry it's been well over a year for me. Thanks Cheri
