Mariano Paul Garcia from Ponta Delgada Sao Miguel

I am hoping someone might be familiar with this family.  Have searched high and low for a Mariano Paulo Garcia son of Manuel Paul Garcia and his mother may have been a Maria da Silva.  Mariano had 2 half brothers Diniz and Virginio Garcia  born in 1886 and 1891 in NS  Estrel,  Ribeira Grande to Manuel Paul Garcia and Manuel's second  second wife Margarida da Estrela.  I found those baptisms,  but according to the attached Naturalization docs for Mariano's spouse,  he was born on 12 Jan 1881,  and his residence prior to his  immigration in March 1900 was Ponta Delgada Sao Miguel.  I have searched all 20+ freguesias of Pongta Delgada and also the passport records and marriage records throughout Ponta Delgada and Ribeira Grande.  Thank you to anyone in the group who might be familiar with this family or has some information that they can share.  Mariano settled in Hudson MA and was married in 1908 to Maria Carolina Freitas.

You gotta read all the form very carefully, maybe 3 or more times, as they jump back and forth between the applicant and the spouse.

Maria, the wife, said about her husband is in the blue area. After that, it goes back to Maria, in the pinkish color:

So yes, Maria states that Mariano was born 12 Jan 1881 in S. MIGUEL. Nothing outside of the island is stated for him for a birth place. His immigration date is stated. If you can find him on American arrival end, you should be able to find him emigrating out on the Azores end.

You are so focused on Mariano that you didn't let your brain click back over to the wife Maria, and when you saw that she immigrated from Ponta Delgada, you let your brain take the ball and run, but kinda in the wrong direction (LOL).

You can ask the church where they got married to look at their marriage book and see if it stated where they were born.

You can order the Alien Registration on Mariano, if he was not a U.S. citizen by 1940.

You can go to Estrella and see if his baptism is there on or around that date.

Don’t want to bring bad news BUTif your relatives left Porto ca 1899-1900, my grandfather, who was a sea captain and, keeping it short, smuggled about 40 people from Horta ca 1899-1900 to New Bedford under dark of night. One of the men went to a bar, drank too much, and bragged. There was a police officer in the bar. Needless to say my grandfather was fined $2000. A lot of money at that time. Luckily he owned his ship with another prosperous NB resident. That is how my grandfather found his wife, my grandmother and married her 3 weeks after arrival. (To keep her and her sisters quiet during trial????) the names of the other passengers were not disclosed. Not sure how many times he might have done this!!

Here's a Mariano son of Manuel Paulo Garcia about the right time and place.  His birthdate and mother's name differ from U.S. records, but it might be him.

After re-reading your post, this must be him; but his mother is the Margarida da Estrela that you say is Manuel's second wife.

With some help from Joao Luis Tavares Silva's tree on Genenet https://gw.geneanet.org/tavaressilva?iz=8&n=garcia&oc=0&p=manuel+paulo I found the marriage at http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/SMG-RG-ESTRELA-C-1860-1869/SMG-RG-ESTRELA-C-1860-1869_item1/P201.html.  It turns out Margarida da Estrella is the first (possibly only?) wife.  They married in 1869.  Joao Luis only has three of their children, all older than Mariano.

As far as I can tell, the only reference to Mariano's mother being Maria Silva is the 1908 Massachusetts Marriage Record.  I suspect it is a mistake.

Bill it's him. Everything else matches with his brothers baptisms, even the name of the Street where they lived, Santa Luzia.  Attached are his brothers baptisms, same parents.  I checked about 1000 records from all over the island for the years 1881-1883 but not 1880. The Massachusetts marriage record says Mariano was 25 years old in 1908, but apparently he was closer to 28.  There are  so many errors in early Naturalization and marriage records that it makes it difficult for anyone to find anything.  I had checked the Geneanet records too, but always looking for a Maria da Silva.  Many thanks Bill, greatly appreciated
