I've moved from windows to ubuntu 14.04 LTS. When installing the package the installation stops with this warning,

the package is of bad quality

The installation of a package which violates the quality standards isn't allowed. This could cause serious problems on your computer. Please contact the person or organisation who provided this package file and include the details beneath.

Lintian check results for /home/david/Downloads/arangodb_2.3.0_i386 (1).deb:

I've tried "dpkg -i" and that worked with a problem. Which package manager are using? It seems that dpkg is a bit more relaxed: http://www.tuxgarage.com/2011/04/package-is-of-bad-quality-software.html

Running lintian as standalone also produces these warnings. My colleague Achim will check.

Thanks for looking into this.

I was using the inbuilt gui ubuntu software centre to complete the installation.

There also looks to be another issue in that arangod has an unsupported dependency

I've done a
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade

but my system has this

The following packages have unmet dependencies.
 arangodb : Depends: libstdc++6 (>= 4.9) but 4.8.2-19ubuntu1 is installed

I'm new to ubuntu so maybe i've missed something...

We have created a new debian package (2.3.1), which should remove the warnings

E: arangodb: maintainer-address-missing triAGENS GmbH
E: arangodb: dir-or-file-in-var-run var/run/arangodb/

Can you check, if the error have vanished?

Are the dependencies working now?

BTW: If the dependencies are still not working, can you check, that you are using the 14.04 packages, not the 14.10 ones?

the dependency issue looks to have been resolved. I'm using the 14.04 packages

I download in chrome, double click the download which prmopts the ubuntu software centre dialog box. Upon clicking on 'install' and authenticating it takes a few minutes then ends but without installing. the 'install' option is still present rather than 'uninstall'

I'm up and running now ! :-)

i switched to using 'dpkg -i' and the additional reporting information from this showed me where arangod had been installed (handy if you're new to ubuntu like me!)

i had some lock file issues which suggests that perhaps the first install had worked after all even though it didn't report anything out to say it was complete...
