AntWordProfiler quitting unexpectedly in MacOS 11.1

I'm trying to open AntWordProfiler for the first time since updating to MacOS 11.1.

The programme previously worked fine but now immediately quits when I attempt to open it. Has anyone else experienced this? Any ways around?

Hi,

You'll probably need to reset the security permissions for the app. Try right clicking and selecting "Open", then you can choose to set the security permissions.

Hi Philip,

I've replicated the problem here. It seems that Big Sur has broken everything (following the tradition of Apple for not paying any respect to backwards compatibility when they update their OS). I'll have to rebuild the app on the new OS and do some testing. It might take a while.

If you are mainly just doing level checking of individual texts (color highlighting etc), I might have another tool that you can use immediately. Let me know your use case.

Hi Laurence,

Thanks for looking into this and sorry it's turned out to be such a big job.

I was hoping to introduce the programme to my MEd TESOL students. For those not using Macs, I guess I can still point them towards the programme and online tutorials. It would be good to have something that I could show them from my own machine if you have a suitable stand in though.

Can you try running the following app on your Big Sur machine?

http://laurenceanthony.net/software/antwordprofiler/releases/AntWordProfiler142/demo/AntWordProfiler.zip

You will probably need to right click and select open as before. If this works for you, I'll create a proper release.

Hi Philip,

I'd prefer that you didn't share the file because it really isn't the proper release. But, if they need the software for an urgent project, I suppose you could give it them as Version 4.1.2 **Beta 1** on the understanding that they will delete it after the full release is out.

Excellent! The interface itself is still quite ugly on a Mac because the font sizes are not matching the original design. But, I won't work on this more, because I have a completely new profiler coming out, which is generally much, much better.
