German Umlaute

Hello all, 

I've installed the AntConc 3.2.4m Mac-version (as well as 3.4.1m to compare). Although I thought it would, the program doesn't -- neither in WinLatin1 nor UTF8 -- display the German Umlaute (ä, ü, ö as well as ß): e.g.  "Bem/x{9f}hungen" instead of "Bemühungen". 

How can I change this? Can someone please help me?

hi have you doubled checked that your text file is in utf-8?

Hi, Fabian. You can run texts in German if you go to Global settings, ISO Encodings. Central Europe ( ISO 8859-2).

Thank you, Mura. Thank you, Marlene -- and sorry about the late reply.

It was about how I saved my txt-documents.  Whenever I converted from docx to txt, the default encoding seems to have been "MacOS Roman", not "Windows Latin 1".  I went back and changed my files to "Windows Latin 1" (probably a beginner's mistake).

Fabian,

If you are having to save your files via Word, I strongly recommend that you use the UTF-8 option. UTF-8 is the default encoding in AntConc and is the international standard. If you use UTF-8, you will not have to worry about encodings again.
