Hi,

To complete my yesterday's post where I tried to install the froyo-
generic-20110101.iso via bootable USB stick and getting only a
distorted something on the display I also did the same with android-
x86-1.6-r2.iso. This time I got a blinking cursor with the first boot
option and a blank black screen with the VESA and debug options.

I would highly appreciate any hints on how I can get this running on
the Acer Aspire 1820PT. I saw on the hardware list that people had
success running it on the Acer 1825 / 1825PTZ which are essentially
the same notebooks with only minor differences.

Thanks a lot for your help.

Cheers,
Bob

Even a hint what to look at / what to search for to resolve this issue
would be great help as I don't have a clue how to get started.

Thanks so much,
Bob

Hi,

If you use the eeepc or the laptop version, that's normal. These iso
are not intented for the Acer 1825PTZ.

Use the new Asus_laptop iso if you want a nice display.

We (a friend of mine and I) made a custom iso that handles the
display,
touchscreen (monotouch), Wifi, Ethernet, BT (supposed to work), sound,
SD Card and
some other stuffs.

I'm starting to work on the accelerometer (G-sensor). I think the
drivers already exist but I guess it needs some Java programmation to
handle it and I'm just starting learning it... ^^

I'll try to upload this iso somewhere, but I have a very bad internet
access. So be patient... ^^

Here is the test iso file. It should work on any Acer 1825PT(Z) and
possibly 1425P. Any Notebook with a cando touch panel ???

Not sure it works with the Lenovo S10-3T as I disabled the Atom CPU

http://rapidshare.com/files/446220918/Acer-1825ptz_laptop.iso

@ Chih-Wei,

What do you need as contribution ?
The definitions file ?

For the accelerometer (G-Sensor), I only have a linux script to handle
it and I don't know for the moment how to port it into Java language.

I'll see if there is my email adress into the profil, so you can write
me directly.

Best regards,

About 15 downloads since 2 days and still not feed backs ??? !!!

Is that mean that my Android version for the 1825PTZ is 'perfect" and
needs no changes ??? ^^

So just some informations in case some of you had problems booting the
ISO file.

If you have a message saying : "vesamenu .c32 : not a COM32R image,
this is due to the Live USB/CD creator you use. I had this problem
with Fedora LiveUSB Creator > 3.9.0 and some other programs (syslinux
issue).

With Fedora 3.9.0 or Lili LiveUSB Creator : no such problem.

With Fedora 3.9.0, you may encounter a "cosmetical" issue with
tons of ".ERROR: idle with IF=0" on boot.

But after a while, it loads and is working fine !

Again a syslinux issue...

With Lili LiveUSB Creator, you should not have these virtual
errors !!!

Just a little word about Bluetooth fonctionnality, it works but is a
little hard to get paired with some devices : I got a BT keyboard with
touchpad fonctionning, but not with an BT audio receiver. I guess this
is still an issue in the actual code on Android-x86. I'll try to see
if I can fix it with other codes from different sources.

At the moment, I'm working on a version that should be compatible with
both Acer 1825 series and Acer 1820 serie (not the same touch panel).

Just a little word : this ISO is bigger than the "officiel" one for
the Android-x86 site as it is more generic !!! I managed to get it
working both on my 1825PTZ and on my MSI-X600 laptop and a MSI U115
Netbook (not touchscreen on both latter machines though)... ;)

Hi there

I downloaded and installed your ISO on to my Acer Aspire 1825PTZ...
looks good here's what I've found so far..

Install was straight forward, used Linux Live USB creator to compile a
bootable USB (forced it build as Android 1.6 version, otherwise it
uses Linux generic), install

- Graphics card now works in the GUI (so that's the first major issue
solved, thank you!).
- Sound Works (but still to test mic)
- Wifi works well, but:
although when I reboot it doesn’t seem to auto connect onto
remembered Wireless connections
When you connect the Wifi only seem so connect at 1Mbps.
The Wifi Enable/Disable slider switch on the laptop turns off
Wifi, but won't turn it back on
(I think this is probably related to the same problem for when
you reboot the Laptop loses the Wifi connection).
- Web Cam works well (using camera app).
- Power off button works no problems.
- Bluetooth works (However I'm using a mini USB dongle for BT, as my
Laptop has no internal BT)
- Select UK keyboard layout, which asks for a reboot but then forgets
the change.
- Don't think power saving works atm (within 40mins I've lost 15% of
the battrey charge)

In Tablet mode:
- Screen does not rotate (but I think you mentioned that this is still
being looked at?)
- no back or home options "on screen", so I had to keep going back to
the keyboard to return from any apps or pages. One possible fix would
be to map the "P" button on the Acer as the home button (one
limitation on the Acer is there is only 1 button accessible when in
Tablet mode), I guess I just need to figure out the mapping of this
special "P" button.
- Also not figured out how you get the Menu screen when using the
Android (my HTC has a menu button, but again due to the Acers
limitations I don't have one)

Yet to figure out:
- Mount windows NTFS partition
- Mount a USB memory stick
- Install apps from the app store (tried to install several apps eg;
Angry Birds & Dr Droid they either crash or fail)
- Try to get multi touch to work (but can't even install an app at
the moment!)
- may try to install on a SD card to see if it improves battery life
& perfromance

As you may of guest already, I’m new to using Android, but on the
whole this has given me lots to play with

Many thanks and keep up the good work.

~Laurie

Hi all,

I'm working on the accelerometer (G-Sensor) and auto-rotate display
fonction at that time and is about to finish it. I just got a problem
is that the i2c-dev modules is not compiling and thus won't load as
modules. And I really need this. i2c-i801 and ls3lv02d modules are
loading fine, but as already said i2c-dev is still missing.

I guess I have to go deeper into the hierarchy of the definitions file
to integrate no predefined modules and it's a lot of work just to
understand the logic of Android-x86 port and platform.

I also plan to integrate multitouch, and another guy is working on it
(as we share the work).

I did no changes to the actual linux sources codes for the moment, nor
to java or xms files (except for the Paris Time Zone), as my goal is
to implement the missing functions for the 1825PT(Z) and same family
machines.
With the actual ISO file version, the sleep and wake-up function works
fine. Just a little glitch is that this a two steps sleep : first the
display get sleep and return back to the Android locker then really
return to sleep. You just need to touch any touch keyboard to wake the
display back. I guess this is a specific problem with Android ???

Optimizations will be a second step.

The 1825PTZ is almost totally functionnal under Ubuntu except the
multitouch touchscreen, but is about to be done.

VGA output works better with Ubuntu than with Android.

That's it.

@ Chih-Wei

I'll send you the files, but as already explained in the other thread,
it's a bit messy so you have to clean them up, and create an Acer
Section, even if I don't really like this idea...

You can't save your settings unless you install on HDD, same for the
external applications.

But not really recommended as this is still an alpha version.

Another guy did install it on hard disk and had not problem for the
moment anyway. But still...

Yep I also plan to implement NTFS partition, but will not do it untill
I'm totally sure it won't hurt your existing system.

USB stick is also on the run.

I'll send all the definition files to Chih-Wei, so more people could
work on it and then we could progress faster... :)

Thanks for your feed backs.

As already explained use Lili LiveUSB Creator or better,
Unetbootin !!!

It's quite easy and quite fast to use !

About the Acer target :

I'm working hard for this solution, but I have real problem with
naming convention inside the different files. Very difficult to
understand all this logic... ^^

I'm almost at the end of doing this, but I still have a problem with
asus-laptop module as my build still depend on it and I don't
understand the reason.
At the same time, this module is a big trouble to get the G-Sensor
working as I can' have /sys/device/platform/lis3lv02d as I do with
Ubuntu... :(

With the Acer Laptop, we dont have a specific *-laptop module as it
exists with Asus, Dell, Msi,... but a acer-wmi one and I don't know
yet if it suffice to get the build working on it own...

So for the moment, I still use the Asus framework to develop and build
an Android-x86 Froyo version for the Acer Aspire series, including
1825PT(Z), 1425P and 1820x, including some other non Acer Laptop.

So I'm afraid that this will scare Chih-Wei if I send him the package
in such a statement. ^^

What do you think Chih-Wei ?

Should I leave or should I go ? ;-)

Arobase40

Laurie,

If you want to keep your settings saved you have to install the build
at least on another USB stick or an SD Card.

I just did it that night and every time I boot Wireless auto-connects
almost instantly.

If you want to keep the keyboard layout, it's the same case.

The Wifi Enable/Disable slider switch works but in some case it takes
some times to refresh. Don't know why ?

About Back or Home options "on screen", I guess this is the same for
all Android-x86 builds, except that these options exist but a bit
hidden... ;-) Watch at the documentation : in Status bar...
And you can also use the Windows key as Home.

Finally the Menu button is not an Acer limitation but an Android-x86
one. :-)

I'm not working on the interface, but only the hardware aspect.

May be Chih-Wei, Al Sutton, and all the other guys could do something
to make this x86 as close as the Phones, Smarphones and tablets
versions ??? :D

I think the second versionof my build will be out quite soon : by
today later or tomorrow with news options : external USB devices such
as keyboard, mouse, USB sticks, Wifi and BT on and scanning the
network when you come to the Home. No need for an SD Card for the
webcam to work, and some other nice stuffs...

Best regards

Is the driver added by ubuntu, or in

If the kernel don't have the driver,
probably means you don't need it.

Yes, in fact I need 4 drivers :

- i2c-i801 -> no problem with this one
- i2c-dev -> this one is the big problem. The driver exist but won't
compile even when defined as module. Don't know why ???
- lis3lv02d -> compiled and exists as lis3lv02d.ko module but won't
load when modprobe in laptop_info definition file. Can be loaded
manually via console though.
- lis3lv02d_i2c -> does not even exist in laptop_defconfig. I guess I
have to had it in the file, even though I'm not quite sure this will
suffice. Guess this has to be added somewhere else ???

> Is the driver added by ubuntu, or in

They all exist in vanilla kernel and of course in Androix-x86.

Yeah, but even tough the system compile and build the iso file, it
does not really works :system locked up after text display and I have
black screen with HDPI and MDPI.
When I use debug mode with nomodeset and after the two exit command ->
I got module "tainted" when lsmod. At final exit command, I have a
nice graphical Android word display but again lock up at there.

I guess I missed a little parameter or something in the definition
files as it was mostly based on the asus_laptop. I also watch at what
have been done in the other targets : Dell, Viewsonic, Viliv, and so.
But.... ???

Ok, I'll send you the Acer target directory as tar ball (so you can
see if something is missing), and the asus_laptop as well.
These two package are quite very close if not identical except for the
naming...
The eeepc has not been touch.

I'll send them to you and I will continue working on both projects at
the mean time.

Hi all,

I know I did promise a new build version for the Acer aspire touch
series but I had many hardware issues (won't explain in detail), also
got an internet issue as I wanted to download again a clean source
code, but got stalled on it since more than 24 hours and the download
is still not yet finished... ^^

I'll do my best to do this build as soon as possible.

I sent the definition files for an Acer target to Chih-Wei and I think
he is trying to "debug" it. I guess this a hard task as it is quick
messy...
Sorry Chih-Wei giving a hard work... ^^

I think a Medion laptop that might also be compatible with one of the

in the Android-x86 drivers for the eGalax touchscreen if this is a

Not sure if it works fine with 1420PT and 1820PT, as nobody sent me
the informations for these laptops.

So I just made guesses... ^^
