Hi all,

This is my second Android-x86 beta for the Acer Aspire 1825PT(Z) and
probably for the above stated laptops.

Result with Packard Bell is unsure.

This is a quick hack as I lost my previous settings and I had to
rebuild it from scratch.

The iso file is quite big (588 MB) so I compress it with Winrar, so
don't forget to uncompress it before uses.

It contains deux Readme files : one for french users and the second
for english speaking users.

The goal of this Android-x86 second beta is mainly a proof of concept
as it supports MULTITOUCH feature, but as any Acer laptops users
should know is that due to hardware limitation, this means dual-touch
only !

Otherwise, the multitouch feature has mainly tested with the "Gallery"
photos application. I don't know which other applications is
supported. "Pinch to zoom" works, but not rotation AFAK.

As already mentioned in previous posts, the multitouch drivers have
been written by Stephane Chatty and Benjamin Tissoires from the Enac
Organisation, and they spent a long time helping me to implement this
feature in the present build. So I must thank them for all the helps
they provided me and for their patience !

Any report is welcome.

Best regards and have fun with it,

Arobase

PS 1 : Already working on the third beta which hopefully will be more
"polished"...
PS 2 : If you know a better place to host this file, let me know.

Ok, someone just reported me that the Acer 1425P* is not well
recognized by the system.

If this is your case, what you can do when you have the desktop
display is to switch to console with ALT-F1 and type "lsmod | more" to
check if the hid-multitouch module is loaded or not.

If you don't know anything about this command : just type "modprobe
hid-multitouch" (whitout quotes) and if no error message appears,
switch back to the desktop with ALT-F7, then check if the touch
feature works and go to the "gallery" photos if you have some pictures
in your SD Card fir the multitouch feature.

If a Acer 1425P* owner could send me his lshal result, I'll try to fix
it as fast as possible...

Hi,

i tried your second beta for my acer 1825ptz 3G - i'm so glad you do
this - great work! my problems are:

in first beta:
- i'm not able to unlock screen if pc switches to it after a
while(thats why i disabled it)
- fan is always on, cpu always at 100% ? -> because laptop is getting
really warm
- gui freezes after a while for some reason(but alt-f1 works)
- no 3 G(built in card) is available
- no blue tooth available

in second beta:
- bluetooth seems to work(i didnt check it yet)
- keyboard does not show up when i try to insert text somewhere - so i
really cant use this beta :-(
- built in 3 G card seems not to work - would be awesome if this would
work 'cause i'm often on the road......
- fan-problem solved? ... it seems like this

would be cool to see a third beta ... with 3G support ... and working
keyboard :) ... thx again

At least, someone reporting about this second beta ! ^^

45 downloads for beta 2 : 3 french reports and you're the first non
french to report...
115 downloads for beta 1 and less than 10 reports in total...

I didn't even know a 1825ptz with 3G existed ???
Are you Denis who posted on Christopher's blog ? ;-)

Really ?
Have not got that problem with beta 1. May be a different hardware and
built from Acer ?

I don't have this 3G built-in card, so can't test it.

Weird as this was working for me and some other users, not easily but
it works.

Weird again as this virtual keyboard works with beta 2 just the same
as beta 1...

If you have a linux system or better a Ubuntu distribution, send me
your hal info and your dmesg to me so I'll see if I can do something.
But I don't really know how to make 3G feature working... I'll try to
test an external USB 3G stick when I have time.
Send me a mail, so we could exchange informations about your laptop.

> - fan-problem solved? ... it seems like this

Not really as acerhdf did not compiled as expected... ;-)

As explained in the archive file, this is an experimental beta to
mainly test multitouch feature.
I'm already working on the third beta, but need more logs and reports.

Thanks for the report.

I'll tell you when the third beta will be ready but can't guarantee 3G
will work.

I made new tests and there is indeed a problem with the keyboard which
don't pop-up anymore with some applications. Maybe a side effect of
multitouch feature.

I'll investigate about this problem !!!

Already sent this to Arobase40, I am new to Google groups and replied
to him only ^^

The virtual keyboard as disabled, just go to the settings and enable
the software keyboard.
Any way to set keyboard to azerty? Couldn't find it but maybe I did
not try long enough ^^

no fan problem here :-)

- Wireless & cam work fine!
- Did not try multitouch on pictures, but on the browser pinchzoom did
not seem to work
- Android went to idle as I left it alone for a few minutes, and I
could not get back to it; Had to turn the PC off and on again (to
quote some favourite IT crowd of mine) and booted back in Windows.
Windows gave me a little scare (message that it had failed to boot)
but when I asked it to boot normally everything was fine.

Thanks for the great work! Looking forward to the next release, I'll
be watching this and testing. Just let me know if I can help :)

To anyone testing my beta isos, please specify the laptop model you
own otherwise it won't be easy to debug and to improve.

If you have an Acer Laptop other than stock 1825pt(z), please send me
your hal info and/or dmesg, or the iso won't be able to identify your
laptop correctly and won't load the correct touch or multitouch
driver.
Specifically the one with resistive touch panel.
I also need some informations about 1425P* laptop (hal info should be
enough) !

Those with Acer 1825ptz or others with 3G build-in card, please do
this as well or I can't add 3G support.

Gollum, can you give more precise explanations about how you fixed the
virtual keyboard ? :)

Best regards

Arobase

Hi again!

to activate the soft keyboard (if I remember well):
Settings (> Language & Keyboard) > Device keyboard > uncheck the
"disable soft keyboard" (or similar)

My laptop is an Acer 1825PTZ (Belgian model: Win 7 64bit, AZERTY
keyboard, 250gig HD, upgraded to 8gig DDR, wifi, bluetooth, no G3
(though there is a dummy module under the battery - shame it's a
dummy))

After second testing:
- if you tap the right corner, you activate the menu bar so it can be
used as the hardware button. on the menu bar: Slide right to left =
back; slide left to right = press menu button
- to set keyboard to French, it's also in the Language & Keyboard, but
as it needs a reboot to work I can't try it out

I created a bootable USB stick with your beta using linuxliveusb.com .
(waaaaaay easier on the 1825ptz ^^)
I appreciate it's beta, but it's very functional already :-) I won't
install it yet, though I hope it'll be possible to create dualboot in
the future :-)
is there a way to create a bootable USB pendrive with some
persistence, so that some mods can be kept and I can try it out more
thoroughly?

Let me know if you need me to try out some things (I'd define myself
as a power-user, but no programmer, so I'll help as best I can)

So simple ! :-)

Yes same as mine, fake 3G module.

I don't need this kind of information but more technical informations.

I'll try to make a basic tuto on using a Live Ubuntu in order to get
the Hal information and the dmesg information I'm requesting.
I don't need these information from 1825ptz except if you have a 3G
build-in card or specific hardware.
I have these informations from Packard Bell Butterfly touch (with
capacitive touch screen) and Lenovo S10-3T, but none from Acer 1425P*,
1820PT* or 1420P*.

So if you have one of these laptops, please if you want your laptop to
be supported let me know, send me mail, and I'll try to explain you
how to send me these informations.
If you have an Acer touch clone laptops, do this also either.

As explained this can't be done in Live Mode. You have to install
Android-x86 in order to save your settings, applications and datas.
But french keyboard layout is roughtly limited, only alphabetical keys
are translated ! :(

Yes, you can use a USB stick or SD Card (with USB adaptor). Better is
to format it with FAT32, and give it an explicite name so you can
recognize it during the installation process.
I have not tested sticks or SD Card with multiple partitions and have
no time to support this.

I use micro USB stick such as LaCie : very very very small !!! :-)
Once inserted it in the port, it won't exceed 5 or 6 mm from the
laptop. So no need to remove it. You can just leave it in.
I also use micro USB adaptor with micro SD Card...

Boot with the Live Android-x86 and your new stick or SD Card in the
slots, and simply do the installation as proposed but to your stick or
SD Card, and follow the instruction.
Google if you need a tuto...

The Live Android should be /dev/sdb, and your stick or SD Card /dev/
sdc, /dev/sdd, ...

May be if you have a 3G stick with Sim card ??? ;-)

You have already done much. Thx

Beta 3 is almost fisnished, with at least a "little" better power
management: Fan out and temperature should now be better controled (at
least acerhdf module got compiled and loaded).
I barely hear the fan even with my ear stuck on the lappy. Temperature
is quite soft.
Ethernet with Wireless not yet fixed. If you use wireless, you have to
disable Ethernet BEFORE using Wifi.
Set the Display TimeOut to Never or it would be hard to wake up your
lappy. May work or not depending on some situations. I'm trying to
recover my previous settings either.
"Pinch to zoom" in the Browser now works (thanks to those you helped
me to fix it). May not work with some pages... ???

Untested 3G feature yet. Will try to do by the time of releasing this
beta 3.
More memory available.

Best regards,

Dirk

Hi,

I have an ACER 1825 PTZ , but unfortunately your build doesn t work
for me . It s running, but no touchscreen functions. Only the keyboard
works.

I appreciate your work very much, but do you have an idea how this
vould work. I would love to have a "simple" tablet pc for most of the
time (emails, browsing...) and Windows "in the background" for more
serious work.

(Running android in a virtual box within windows might be possible and
an idea, but due to limited resources of my 1825 not really the best
idea.)

Thanks

Dirk, Munich
