Not as far as I know, a virtual machine with AndroVM (soon to be Genymotion) seems to be the best option at this point. Though something akin to Wine for Android would be be nice.

Lots of people have spoken about this for ages.  What it really requires is a port of Dalvik, the VM to enable apps to run.

A company, Myriad has got Dalvik working (using their own compatible version, Alien Dalvik) allowing Android apps to run in Linux (The Jolla phone will feature this software).

IcedRobot was a FOSS implementation meant to enable Dalvik in Linux, but it seems to have gone stale.  Hopefully someone can pick this back up, a Kickstarter campaign should provide cash for the project.

Is there someone here who know enough about Android and Xorg to give us an idea of the work that would need to be done?

Doesn't Alien require the application publisher to essentially compile the app for Linux use? From what I've read it's not a general solution to run any app.

That can't be the case; I have seen a demo where Google Maps was used with Alien Dalvik, and Google obviously isn't going to recompile their app for Myriad.

i've been seeing a few Intel Atom Android hardware coming out this week. i might be seeing things, but i did not imagine this :

If i'm reading this right, its an Android-x86, coupled with an android emulator accelerated using intel VT technologies. You can still recompile apps natively for intel atom, or you can use software as is.

hey, but dont take it from me, read the thing for yourself, i'm still having problem believing that ARM adoption is coming to a point where Intel is playing catch up.
