Is there any build which has HDMI audio support? I do have same
problem and as I can see I have everything ready for that: alsa_aplay -
l shows all my HDMI devices, but alsa_aplay -L shows only default
logical audio device.
Can anybody share the idea how to bring HDMI logical audio device up?

With Best Regards,
Mikhail.

Up, some problem!

Ps: @notandyet in an old thread you said you've a ao722 with hdmi audio working, am I wrong? If so, what method do you have used?

Radeon HDMI audio was set to disabled-by-default starting in kernel 3.0. It wasn't re-enabled until kernel 3.13.
Add kernel parameter "radeon.audio=1" to enable it.

Maybe a more important question, will there be any way to play video or audio at all?

Somebody, I'm a network administrator not a programmer so what do you mean by "Add kernel parameter "radeon.audio=1" to enable it."??

This has nothing at all to do with being a programmer and EVERYTHING to do with being a sysadmin. I'm not really sure how you can be a 'network administrator' and not know this....?

My card is an old ATI HD4770, i tried to add the following line "radeon.audio=1" in kernel but still no sound.

Somebody, you should at least learn to read! If I said that I'm not a
programmer then sending a link to more programming isn't really very
helpful now is it?

That is not programming. AT ALL.
That is sysadmin. Which you clearly ARE NOT.

If your device has multiple sound cards, it may be defaulting to the wrong one. I don't know how to advise you on this.

Hi,

I'm wondering if there is any improvement in the HDMI Audio output support. I have installed 4.4 RC2 on a HP EliteBook 8530p which is running fine with HDMI video support.

cat /proc/asound/cards:

0 [HDMI]: HDA-Intel – HAD ATI HDMI

HDA ATI HDMI at 0xd8310000 irq 47

Cat /proc/asound/devices:

2: [0- 3]: Digital audio playback

3: [0- 0]: hardware dependent

4: [0]    : control

33:       : timer

Alsa_aplay –l:

Device_list:241: no soundcards found…

Alsa_amixer –c 0:
Invalid card number

Does anyone have an idea how to enable the audio on the HDMI ATI card?

Kernel parameter radeon.audio=1 didn’t help.

I didn’t run the commands in the previous post in the root terminal which is the cause of the empty output. Below is the output from the root terminal. I’m not familiar how Linux is handling sound devices so I don’t know if the settings below are correct. It would be great to get HDMI audio working in order to use it as an media center PC.

Cat /proc/asound/devices:

  2: [ 0- 3]: digital audio playback

Me too, i´m trying to get sound from HDMI AMD card, but it never seems to function even when i disable the onboard audio.
Why can´t they fix this simple problem, HDMI functions on every other linux distro.
