Hi, I'm delighted to see the video.

For the apps not showing on Android TV home screen,
I think we can include a simple launcher linked below.

NVM, I had a dumb question 😉 just sideloade via network a file browser an then put all files on a USB stick.

Youtube & ES FileBrowser worked in my test

Attempted to get this to work. Picked up a Raspberry PI 3 model B, wiped the SD card, then imaged it using the image provided. Boot to multicolored screen, then monitor goes black, and stays black. Attempted on a 19" LCD monitor over HDMI to VGA, a 32 inch HDready tv over DVI, and my 47" Visio over HDMI only, while imaging the drive each time, just in case during the time that the hard drive was in use, that I didn't somehow corrupt whatever configs it was setting.

I had to validate with NOOBS that my PI 3 was still functioning, which it is. I did not get any android screen. With the monitor, the screen turned off after the inital color boot screen. The 32 inch did not even get the color boot screen, and the 47 inch got the color screen, but nothing after that.

Any help would be appreciated.

Yea! I got the sideloading figured out.  I'm actually using the Amazon FireTV Utility App and that makes it very easy.  I only get Kodi and YouTube to operate so far.  My colors are wrong though.  Reds are showing up blue, etc. on Video playback from both apps.  The red in the YouTube app is find so it isn't a problem everywhere.

For all of you who have the rainbow screen of death - that means your power supply for your Pi is too weak. You need at least 5.1V DC and 2.5A. Current is more in demand than voltage.
Weak power supply will also hibdr your WiFi range. Learned that the hard way.
Provide a stable power supply for Pi3 and you'll be fine.

That post has a link the leanback gapps which are the easy ones to use in Android TV but you can use any one you like as long as they are MM they just will be harder to access and use because of how they expect user input.

Installed and works well. Have side loaded Kodi and this puts a startup icon onto the homepage as well as working just great. However I can't get Netflix to startup. I have tried about 3 builds and all seem to start but never connect to the Netflix Service. I get a timeout message with a code 9. Has anyone been able to get Netflix going? Not solved yet, I am downloading the sources to compile it using the software video decoder (https://github.com/peyo-hd/device_brcm_rpi2/wiki#enable-sw-video-decoder) but I honestly don't know if it will be the solution. The current performance (with red-blue colors problem) is not bad (at least on Netflix, Youtube...)

This seems to be an issue with Google's Leanback applications. They don't seem to respond at all to touch or mice.

As for controlling, I'd recommend grabbing the PureNexus system image for the Molly from XDA and pulling out the AtvRemoteService folder from it's /system/priv-app. There's a library missing in the ATV image that causes the remote service to die (You can then use another Android device to control it and select items). That said, the AtvRemoteService appears to be rather unstable. But each new image seems to be bringing more and more stability to Android on the Pi.

hey, just curious since on my tv it boots with 1282x720@60Hz and when i open apps and things, corners are cut off, the resolution is bad for me personally.. i tried changing config.txt to 1080p, 720p and couple more combinations but it always turns back to 1282x720@60, is this hardcoded in kernel/gpu driver or something? i noticed somewhere that this is an android thing, anyone managed to pass it?

also, anyone managed to install su? im gonna mess around with it these days when i have some time, just needed a heads-up if anyone tried so far p;

The confix.txt file in the boot parittion is a BIOS of sorts, the OS is under no constrain to respect anything in that file once the booting process goes into the OS part
The resolution as far as I understand it is a limitation of the GPU driver at the moment, it's a driver that's currently under development, so to be expected really.

The image is already rooted because of the enviroment variables it is being built with, all you need to do is install the SuperSU app from the market.

Open the build.prop under /system/

There's a debug line in there forcing 720p. Remove that and the system boots under 1080p.

now i had the time to mess with it, this is what i was talking about, attaching the pics, i tried editing both build.prop and config.txt but i guess at the moment 720p is forced.. sadly it cuts a bit from my screen but at least for kodi i can arrange that in settings, others ill just deal with it.. as for su, supersu says its not rooted, probably have to replace with my own files from chainfire.. would appreciate if anyone had these issues to post any related info but nothing i cant handle on my own so no biggie

What I mean is that there is a resolution debug line in build.prop, remove
that line (I don't have access to my Pi at the moment or I'd post it) and
then you can edit the framebuffer_width/height lines in config.txt to your
hearts content, remove it and use the hdmi_* variables etc.

It should be noted that the system is rooted, but mounted readonly. You can
get around this by using adb remount after connecting. (or editing the
ramdisk's fstab)

I found out that you can shutdown your Rasoberry Pi by typing "reboot -p" in a terminal Emumlator i use this one:https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jackpal.androidterm&hl=de

PS: Does anyone knows how to gain root acces on this Android TV build?

RTAndroid builds are pre-rooted: https://git.embedded.rwth-aachen.de/rtandroid/downloads/raspberry-pi/
I'm not aware of other images that have the correct su binary or the Superuser / SuperSU app bundled.

Thank you for answering. How did you connect your Pi to your Laptop? Did you use a normal USB to USB Cable and adb reconised the Pi?

What is the purpose of the connection? Are you trying to get ADB working?
For ADB just configure a network connection (either ethernet cable or wifi) and find out the IP address of the RPi. Then execute on your host machine "adb connect IP-ADRESS-HERE"

I have this problem too with my LG Smart TV (idk the model number). Edited config.txt and deleting all line above kernel=zImage, booting raspberry and until no signal found, and then turning tv on and off (it works, weird. Maybe there's problem with mesa driver, i think i have this problem too with ubuntu mate).

I have an LG TV as well dher. I noticed after my first attempt at this, when I would start up, it would change my TV input to something other than the HDMI I was using. Weird bug with LG I guess. Might be something to keep an eye out for.

It's not LG TV only have this problem, people complaining that any tv with 1080p resolution is having issue as well. Tried with another 1080p tv, still got the same result. I thought it was signal interference when tv switching from 1080p to 720p, so i tried to change "native" resolution by deleting "forcing"-resolution at build.prop. And it's booting at 1080p but sadly still got no signal. Changing config.txt isn't worked too. So my assumption is mesa driver related issue. Yeah lets hope that future mesa driver update fix that, it's annoying to start this "android tv" by switching hdmi or turning off and on tv.

Have you guys tried editing the config to include : hdmi_force_hotplug=1
and then booting with no hdmi connected to the pi, and plugging it in after a few minutes? see if that lets you see the OS on the screen, if not maybe try hdmi_safe=1 at the end of the config file

My tvs Philips / Samsung both run the images fine with 1080p and 720p configs...

We can both see our images Hary. Just talking about the TV mechanics. Making changes to the PI won't change the fact that the LG TV auto detect goes haywire. Luckily it only does it on the initial boot up, all others after that it's fine.

Good day. I have installed android tv for raspberry pi using the image supplied by geektillithertz.com and I used a gapps.sh install script to install a gapps Tvstock from gapps.org. I am stuck every time after reboot with a smeared welcome screen and what appears to be a language selection that I can't get past. I've tried every possible key on the keyboard with no success aswell as multiple gapps packages with Tvstock for 6.0. Can someone please help me. I can't figure it out

I did made it passed with using this https://github.com/opengapps/arm/releases/download/20161207/open_gapps-arm-5.1-tvstock-20161207.zip. Also I am using the https://github.com/RTAndroid/android_device_brcm_rpi3/blob/aosp-n/scripts/gapps.sh
you will need to install lzip and change the gapp.sh tar.xz to tar.lz

I did face the smeared screen, but I switched to chinese, I can see the login screen and once I finished login, the smeared screen went away

Great works. I tested it and it is working ok. I did face some bugs

1. looks like not all hdmi cable works.
2. sometimes it has smeared screen. Initially I thought it might be incompatible for the google play, but I experienced that smeared screen even for the initial build. I used one of the Chinese TV apps called VST to test it. It has smeared screen. That also happened after I install gapps, the google login page did that as well.
3. The android tv remote(iphone) found the device, but failed to connect. After load the library from nexuspure system/pri-apps/AtvRemoteControl/lib/arm/libatv_uinputbridge.so, the remote seems funtional. However, after I installed the google play with opengapps, the remote app can't find the device anymore.
