OCS 2017

I am planning on taking the OCS in 2017 and would like to start a study group. I have about 8 yrs of experience as a PT and am a certified manual therapist through EIM. I have also completed my transitional doctrate through EIM last yr. I work primarily in a hospital based out patient orthopedic clinic currently for the last 4 months. In the past I have been in a private owned outpatient orthopedic clinic for 7 1/2 yrs. Please let me know if anybody is interested. Thanks.

I am just starting with my review. I started with the lumbar spine and am referring Dutton, McGee and Current Concepts at this time. I also have the orthopedic secrets book but have not looked into it yet. Any thoughts on group discussion schedules? We can do one a month with a specific system and meet on google hang out or something. I am planning on taking the Eric Wilson self study course. I was told new notes will be coming out in Sept 2016, so I will be purchasing it after that.

I have the ortho secrets book and used eric wilsons course to prep originally. I plan on purchasing the EIM course this time around to see how that goes. Hey guys,
I just got my results from the 2016 OCS...and I passed with a perfect scaled score. Advice I can give to everyone is to study your tail off...I used EIM course...it was a lot of material, and I know the eric Wilson course has a lot of support, but I believe the EIM is very comprehensive and really trains you to prepare for the complex questions that are asked on the exam. Start studying early...take a lot of notes, and pace yourselves...it's a very difficult test, but success is correlated with hard work and know your biomechanics, anatomy, physiology, and be up to date on the clinical practice guidelines. I work in a hospital-based outpatient in PA. I have done my transitional doctorate and master's in orthopedics. I have been working for the past 7 years of which 6 have been in outpatient facilities. I had the last week to decide about taking the OCS and submitted my application on the last day! I am glad to have found this study group. I'm available everyday except Tuesday and Thursday including weekends. I want to be sure about the study material I buy. From what I read up to now, the EIM appears to be great. any other ideas?

Hey guys! I'm so happy to have found this google study group! I am taking the OCS exam in 2017, very nervous! I have been a PT for 6 years, all in the outpatient ortho setting. I have a fellowship in manual therapy through MTI and am credentialed in McKenzie MDT. The study materials I have gathered so far are EIM, APTA current concepts, and Netters Clinical Examination. Looking into the Eric Wilson course. but this is getting expensive hahaa. I signed up for a box account, but am still waiting to be added-- sounds like there will be lots of helpful material there!   Would love to join you guys in the study sessions/discussions. Just want to finalize time and details of the study session for Sept 11. 

Topic lumbar spine

Time- 7 pm central? (So it is not too late for eastern time zone)

Any ideas for format? I was thinking- if each one of us discussed one smaller section in depth then we can cover it in entirety

Eg. Anatomy, PT eval, CPRs, red, blue, yellow flags and its significance, Radiology and intervention, clinical guidelines by APTA. One of us can type all the info in a document and post it for future reference. 

This is just a thought. Please feel free to give feedback on this format. I hope to maximize exchange of ideas.

Hello everyone. I am taking the OCS in 2017 and would like to join the discussion. I've been a PT for 4 years. I took the OCS in 2016 and didn't pass by much however I had the luck of studying throughout my pregnancy and then tested the week after my son was born so needless to say I was completely overwhelmed. overall I think the test was appropriately hard...I guess since I thought it would be. I know I can pass this time around and I'm eager to start the study process again.

Is anyone up for doing a summary of the last half of the shoulder booklet? I'm starting to type up a summary of the first half (pgs 1-36). If there are more takers, the first and second half could be even more divided so it's less individual work. Let me know! :)

For the next meeting, we were considering 3 weeks from now (Sunday, Nov 27th) at 7pm central time, going over the cervical spine. Does this work okay for everyone? 

For dividing up the material, people can send 1) any helpful study tips/material from courses they have taken, 2) any practice test questions from courses, 3) special testing handouts, 4) current evidence/research article summaries, 5) APTA current concepts summary, etc.  

I will start putting together a summary of the APTA current concepts for the first half of the cervical spine---any takers for the second half, or if more ppl want to contribute to the summary, the sections can easily be further divided (less work on each individual person). :)
